My fog-free mirror = Not so fog free

What’s the deal? I just bought a fog-free mirror because I like to shave in the shower. However, when I get in the shower, the fog-free mirror gets foggier than my regular mirror. Something’s wrong! How can I fix this? Why is it like this?

Mine came with a thin plastic coating which needed to be removed in order to reveal it’s true fog free nature. Maybe you have yet to remove this? Once you start shaving in the shower, nothing else will do.

I shave in the shower as well, and I’d been noticing that my fog-free mirror ain’t so fog-free anymore. Usually, it doesn’t bother me too much- I shave my head, so I pretty much have to shave by braille. When I shave my face, however, it’s not so easy…

Anyway, just this morning I accidentally found a possible cure for the situation. I was trying to wipe some of the steam off, and I managed to get a bit of soap from my shave onto it… and that area never refogged. So I wiped the entire surface with a bit of my shave lather, and it stayed fog-free for the rest of the shower.

Worth a shot, right?

I do the same thing with my fog-free mirror. Seems to be the only thing that works for me, too.

Sorry about the weird formatting on that last post. I’m not sure how I screwed that up.

Since I’m posting a follow up anyway, is there anything else you can use, aside from a coating of soap, to keep the mirror fog free? I’m sure that the soap buildup over time will make the mirror turn a bit milky.

My fog-free mirror used to fog up after two ro three showers. Because I hate to clean, I started using the Tilex after-shower spray to keep my shower looking nice. Since I have been using the spray, the mirror stays clear every day. After every shower, lightly mist all the surfaces (including the mirror), and you rarely have to clean your shower. Seriously, with the spray the shower doesn’t need to be cleaned for several months.

I use the soap trick, it works pretty well. The Fog-free part only seemed to work for about a week.

I bought a bottle of cleaner specifically for my fog-free mirror. It contains, I believe, alcohol and a mild detergent. The problem is that various oils and other contaminants land on the mirror all the time, so these need to be removed. Any mild cleaner should work, but my mirror is plastic, so I need to be careful about not scratching it when I clean it.

I second the recommendation to use the “daily shower spray”, on everything including the miro. I have a cheapo non fog-free mirror, yet by spraying daily I never have a problem.

The shaving cream on the mirror worked… but for only about 10 minutes…

that’s okay because it’s just about as long as I need to shave. (even though I AM Italian… )
I used the foam kind. Is there a difference between the foam and gel kind?
If it is the gel kind…do you need to make it foam-like before applying to the mirror?
