My Frustration with PS2 games

First of all—last year I bought a PS2 eye toy because I thought it was a cool gadget and probably eventually lots of PS2 games would have eye toy options. I was right. This year there are several games that can be used with the eye toy. The problem is, most of the stores that have them only sell the game with an eye toy. I just want the game, not the eye toy.

Second, my daughter wants the game “Kingdom Hearts 2: Chain of Memories” for Christmas. That’s all she talks about. It’s advertised on TV, but as far as I can tell, from the store ads—Best Buy, Walmart, Target, no store has it.----Anybody hear anything about this?

You should be able to find the second (Eye Toy Groove) and third (Eye Toy Antigrav) games as standalones, in addition to the “with Eye Toy” versions. I’ve seen both in Best Buy stores within the last week. I’d check a Gamestop or Best Buy and you may need to talk to the sales staff.

I hadn’t realized there is at least one more Eye Toy game out – a Nickelodeon one, with Spongebob and company. I haven’t seen that one yet.

And Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories is for the Game Boy Advance. Kingdom Hearts 2 for PS2 isn’t out yet. Unless she has a Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Advance SP or Nintendo DS, she won’t be able to play it. If she does have one of those pieces of hardware, though, you’re in luck.

There’s heaps of eyetoy stuff this xmas (all on a single disc):

Pure Eyetoy games:

  • Eyetoy 1&2 (Eyetoy 2 has 72 minigames, and has quite a bit of variation so get it pronto)
  • Spongue Bob Squarepants Movin’ (stay away unless you’re a SB/SP fan, it’s crap)
  • Sega Superstars (some of the bits are very cool, specially Puyo Pop and NiGHTS)

Games with Eyetoy usage:

  • Singstar (see yourself on screen, not much interaction)
  • Jakie Chan Adventures (only on the minigames)
  • This is Soccer 2005 (supposedly you can map your face onto a player)

Upcoming:

  • Eyetoy Kinetic (some sort of aerobics program)

Oh, and make sure you clear a 10 foot radius around you when you play.
According to gamefaqs.com, Kingdom Hearts 2 is due out about Sept 05. Dunno if it’s the one you’re after.

The new Kingdom Hearts game is available on the GameBoy Advance.

Thanks…I think I can talk her into the GBA game of Kingdom Hearts2…it’s cheaper, anyway.

Kingdom Hearts 2 won’t ship until Sep 14th 2005 for PS2 according to EB games .com
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban works with the Eye Toy, and is available now.

Technically, it is not Kingdom Hearts 2, but my kids are never concerned about technicalities like that.
