My Galaxy Note Pro does not work with my Router

All

I am not sure if this question belongs here or not, Mods please move if so.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note Pro Tablet, it detects my WIFI Router but will not complete connecting. A dialog box comes and asks for the password, I provide that, the machine processes for a very short time and then the same dialog box comes up, over and over.

I know that the WIFI broadcast works on the Router because my 'phone connects using the same password.

I know that WIFI works on the tablet, I set-up a WIFI hot spot on one of my laptops and the tablet connects to that without any fuss.

I have read in various forums that Samsung has difficulty connecting to some Routers, so what I would like to find out is if there is a Router that will work with this tablet without purchasing several.

Leaving the laptop on is not an option, I disconnect all my computers when they are not in use, Lighting got me twice, once through the mains and once through the CATV cable, I disconnect 'em both these days.

Thanks to all who read this, more thanks to any who may suggest a path forward.

I uninstalled the driver and allowed it to reinstall it via “new hardware found”, on a windows tablet when I had issues.

There are no “drivers” in Android.

The most obvious answer is that the password is wrong. Double and triple check that. If you know your way around routers I would even go as far as temporarily removing security from the router and seeing if your tablet connects then.

Thank you Control-Z

I did check my password as one of the first things. What I do not understand is how my Android. 'phone connects to the router using the same password and my Android tablet will not. For that matter why do both the tablet and the 'phone connect to the WIFI hotspot I created on my laptop.

I will try connecting with the security off and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks again Z

Could you have DHCP setting messed up? Could be trying to use a duplicate address. Also maybe a security setting on the router maybe blocking your MAC address?

Reboot your router and delete the home network from your Galaxy and let it search for it again. If it still doesn’t connect, disable security settings to see if it connects. If it still doesn’t connect it is most likely a DHCP issue and you should try allocating a static IP for your Galaxy.

BTW, what make is your router? I hear NETGEAR is infamous for the problems you’re experiencing.

My Samsung Galaxy phone I used to have would sometimes be unable to connect at home. If I unplugged my router, then plugged it back in, all would be fine for a few weeks.

Thank you for your various replies, your interest is much appreciated.

I haven’t got back to this problem, so I have little to report. I do have a Netgear 7550 modem / router, I was using that modem’s WIFI and that didn’t work so I got a Belkin AC750 DB, which is a router only, and it didn’t work with the tablet either. I then persuaded my the place where I bought the tablet to have it exchanged under warranty. I was very disappointed when the new one came and it didn’t work, that’s when I set-up the WIFI hotspot on my Laptop. Guess this means there was nothing wrong with the first one, sigh. When the WE comes I spend some time on the problem.

I will try the various suggestions, again thank you.

Its a long shot but I’ve encountered devices that expect the letters in the WiFi key to all be capital (or all lowercase) even though they’re written in the opposite case on the sticker…

Hail Ants

I have always used the interfaces that are provided with the routers and set my own password, at least in the case of the Belkin router it doesn’t seem case sensitive.

Well I spent a number of hours trying the various suggestions and combinations thereof; status, the note pro sees the router but will not connect regardless of the settings.

I guess this is going to go by the way for now, I can connect to the laptop and will just need to turn that on if I want to use the tablet.

Thank you for all your kind replies.
