My GTX 1650 blew out on my Ideapad L340. Can I purchase that part/component online and have it installed again?

Best way I can describe it as “blew out”. I loaded up Ghost of Tsushima with gameday drivers pre-installed.

Game loaded to the menu and when I was using it, the computer made a weird noise, like a crackle or pop.

I had to restart the computer and only my Intel Chipset graphics can now be found.

Can I order a GTX1650 component and get a repair place to install it?

You can, but it may not be worth it.

Check the Lenovo Parts site, you will need your serial number:

There’s no guarantee the GPU chip itself was the failed component, or the only failed component.

And if the GPU does need to be replaced, rework of the ball grid array soldering may be beyond the skills or toolset of the average hobbyist

Thanks. The rest of the computer seems fine. It just went from a gamer laptop to a plain old regular laptop. Only difference appears to be no proper graphics card for gaming.

:frowning:

On top of the difficulty in installing it (it’s not a card so much as a chip soldered to the board), it’s unlikely you’ll be able to just buy a new one like you could a traditional video card. Sorry.

Yeah, that’s what I figured. It’s just over 4 years old; I used it to play a lot of games I had saved up until I had a computer to play on. It worked really well.

Thankfully, my entire computer is not trashed, which gives me plenty of time to wait or search for a new one at some point.

:man_shrugging:

I’m sure there are better now, anyway…

You’ll have to replace the whole motherboard; just replacing the GPU chip isn’t something that can really be done most of the time.

It looks like Lenovo has some relatively cheap motherboard replacements. The boards with GTX 1650 chips are in the $200-300 range. Click on “system boards” from this link:

GTX 1650 gaming laptops seem to be in the $600-900 range these days, so it might be worth it if installation is cheap enough.

Your help here has been tremendous. How can I determine the EXACT motherboard I need? Any stickers on the bottom of my computer with specific model number info are gone. I don’t see the exact motherboard listed in System Information. I have a Lenovo Ideapad L340

Here is my quick look at Ebay for motherboards:

Try the Lenovo Vantage app:

I appreciate your and everyone else’s help. My shop says they will install one for about $100-$150.

If I can get a board cheap enough, I might fix.

The question arises if you can get an upgraded motherboard (faster GPU or whatever) instead of the exact one.

It varies. Often, a line of laptops will have differing price points with different features, but all in the same case, and difference may be nothing more that different motherboards with comparable layouts and compatible connectors.

But not always.
