Here are the “after” pics. I haven’t been able to find any before pics because I hate to be photographed, especially with my hair down. The pics aren’t the greatest (it looks sooo much nicer in real life) but its what I could do for now. Enjoy.
I think your hair rocks! How long is it?
Kythereia, on the rare occasion that I don’t straighten mine, and actually want it to curl as frizz-free as possible, here is what I do:
After shampooing/conditioning, I gently towel-dry it, but taking care to leave it a little wetter than I normally would. Then, I put styling lotion for curly hair on my hands, and comb my fingers through my hair. I bend forward and hang my head upside down, and gently lift my roots so I don’t end up with flat hair plastered to the top of my head like a helmet. Still bent over, I start at the ends of my hair, and push/scrunch it up toward my head, and hold large sections of it with jaw clips. At this point I look ridiculous, btw. I try to leave it like that as long as possible, letting it air dry and giving the curls a bit of time to set. Then I use a dryer on the coolest setting while my hair is still in the clips. I take the clips out carefully and lightly shake my hair, trying not to disturb the curls, attach the diffuser to the dryer, and dry my hair upside down, pushing my hair from the ends up toward my scalp with the diffuser fingers. I stand upright like a normal human being, let the blood drain from my face , and spritz it with shine spray.
There’s a reason I usually straighten it, you know.
I have to giggle at the “squee!” comments, because it’s such a perfect word that it really ought to be made dictionary-official.
I am extremely jealous of people who have any kind of curl to their hair, as mine is straight as an arrow, holds no curl whatsoever.
You’d enjoy it for a week at most. I’m a dude, I might squeeee myself if I could get my hair straightened.
Oh, the different paths we take. My hair fits your description to a T, except mine is wavy on the top of my head, and curly underneath. So what do I do? I went and got the top half permed.
I still love to straighten it from time to time though. I contemplate doing that whole permanent straightening thing from time to time.
I don’t toss, it’s to heavy to really go anywhere, but I do…

It looks great! Have you put it in a ponytail yet? I’ve had thick, straight hair my entire life, and I still have a Black Minx moment every time I pull it back into a ponytail. swish swish
Next you’ll have to play with braiding and such. I love playing with complicated braiding and always comb my hair thoroughly into submission before and throughout the process to get the plait to look tidy. If you can’t brush or heavily comb curly hair, can you braid it? It feels like a silly question, but in the occasional times I have to get my hair tied back quickly and put it in a rough braid without brushing first I’ll usually end up with a snarled mess that takes me an hour to pick out at the end of the day.
Why anyone with thick, long, wavy/curly locks would want anything else is beyond me. I’d kill for that.
At any rate, happy squee hair! It looks very nice.
Your hair is lovely!
For those who don’t get it–you get tired of having hair that is more active than you are. I get tired of the fight–just lay flat for a change! So, it makes a nice change.
I’m a guy with lotsa hair. Currently growing it longer, to “I should be able to stick hand behind back and get a handful of hair”, less than “I should have to move hair in order to sit down if I don’t want to end up sitting on my hair”. Right now I’m at “stick hand behind back and get trailing tendrils of hair”. It’s kinda wavy, less so as weight of length piles on. Any advice?
