I just had General Tao’s Chicken (sic) for supper. Not bad, although not quite the real thing, as it was a new PC brand frozen dish from Loblaws. Looks like, having started out with Thai dishes and moved on to Indian, that they are now doing Chinese (they also have a new Beef in Black Bean Sauce that ain’t bad). I’m expecting Japanese next, and maybe a nice satay sometime down the road as they hit all the main Asian cuisines. Love them PC goodies! Good food and no pots and pans to wash afterwards!
Nothing special happening for me tomorrow, though, except our first real snow of the year, according to the weatherman. We had our Thanksgiving at a sensible time of the year (i.e. not snowing).
Hey, Bumba I got to practice turkey frying today. See, we got this turkey fryer set up at work (no, I don’t know why, we just do), so we bought two turkeys out of our happy fun fund (yes, we call it that. no, I don’t know why) and I brought in my big ol’ turkey injector and some marinade and some cajun spices and marinaded up and spiced and fried two turkeys at work. They were good. I didn’t catch nuttin’ on fire. So, maybe I won’t catch nuttin’ on fire tomorrow either since I’m all practiced up.
Belated birthday wishes to BiblioCat and early ones to Rue.
Yes, I’ve tried to get rid of the cat. Would you like a cat, Bumba? She’s cute!
Bookkeeper (didja realise that your name involves typing three sets of double letters? That’s cool!) have you tried the Ultra Decadent Chocolate Truffle Cake? I think they’re $8.99, and they’re fantastic. I made dinner with PC butter chicken sauce a few days ago. It’s somewhere earlier in this thread.
Although Mr. DeDay may technically be an adult, and subject to the benefits and privileges therein, I sincerely doubt that it has ever occurred to him that he might be an adult. Classic closet Peter Pan syndrome!
Oh, and FCM, I think I’m going to invite meself to T’Day dinner at your place next year. Can you add Maryland Crab Soup as a starter, s’il vous please?
Yep (one of the reasons I picked it - I likes fun words).
Yes on the Ultra Decadent Chocolate Truffle Cake. I’m not that much of a chocolate fan, but Mrs. B. is (not to mention all the other chocoholic females in our combined families), so I tend to pick up this sort of thing when I see it.
I saw your post on the beef in butter chicken sauce and wondered based on previous comments whether you were using the PC sauce. I’ve tried a couple of the Indian sauces and have others waiting for a chance to try and they’re pretty good. Not quite as good as my favourite Indian restaurant (and still no Lamb Pasanda), but a lot cheaper!
I wanna work where swampbear works. We never do stuff like that, and we don’t have a Happy Fun Fund. We do have a playground, though. With a twisty slide.
Yesterday, I got a birthday card. My birthday is also on Pearl Harbor day, so it was way early. I also got an anniversary card. Our anniversary was 2 weeks ago. So I guess on average, I’m doing okay.
Except the anniversary card was from the mother-in-law. Think that means anything? I didn’t think so, either.
Toooooo full. I think the best thing was the chocolate pie, and the second best was watching my brother tease our nephew about the chocolate pie’s white meat and dark meat.
Well, as it happens, I make a killer crab soup - my grandmother’s recipe. I just don’t know if I’m going to host next year. But should you find yourself in Merryland, give me enough warning, and I might whip up a pot o’ soup for you.
Dinner was yummerrific, and there’s way too many leftovers. I won’t have to cook for a week!! Even after giving away a bunch, I’ve still got 2 1/2 pies, half a cobbler, and over a gallon of ice cream and a mess of cookies. I may go back and graze again…
Almost makes me wish I’d cooked a turkey. Leftovers are the best.
It snowed yesterday, as I was leaving work. I found out I had to work about five minutes before I was supposed to be there, got my stuff, and scooted fast through the freezing cold. Suddenly it’s below freezing. I think I’ll make a hearty ham/potatoes/corn chowder today, in response to the weather.
I started my day by taking all the excess turkey meat off the carcass, and I managed to slice my middle finger on the left hand. I don’t think I bled on anything edible, tho…
The meat is in the fridge and the carcass is being boiled for broth. Life is good. Well, except for the finger thing.
Had a wonderful dinner last night. Lots of traditional food and some not so traditional, pea salad, yams with peaches and cashews, stuff like that.
Spent an uncomfortable night because of too much sugar, but I had to taste all the cheesecakes and pies, just a little. Missus found out that you can’t use ground hazelnuts instead of flour in impossible coconut pie, it comes to the top instead of sinking to the bottom, but it was still wonderful. My no-bake key lime cheesecake was very good, but next time I will go to the extra trouble to hunt up some ricotta instead of using large curd cottage cheese. Why can’t grocery stores put the ricotta with the other cheeses? Sheesh! Used ground hazelnuts (yeah, there’s a common theme here, so what?) for the crust instead of wheatgerm, definately an improvement.
Now I’ve gotta go buy some new pants while they’re on extra sale. Normally I wouldn’t go near a store on the day after T-day. Yes I am that anti-social. But Missus says I look like a bum in my too large pants now.
Wish me luck.
Aren’t you on Atkins? Would you like an extra helping of carbs with your carbs?
Dinner’s cooking, and I’m thinking about doing my stretches and weights before I go to work. I might go out dancing tonight, too. That would be fun, assuming the Friday DJ has improved. I don’t know why, but they’ve put up a big projector-screen and have started playing anime on it on Fridays. Very annoying.
Last time I was there they were playing Akira, which Driving Husband thought was funny, because the title is very similar to my real name.
Yes I am on Atkins, but I’m not married to it. Well, actually I am married to it 'cause it was my wife’s idea. Anyway, I find that I seem to loose weight better if I go off it for a day every so often. I don’t know why, it just works that way. I’ll hit a plateau and then I’ll go have pizza or something and I’ll start to loose again.
I have no experience with anime, so I don’t know how to sympathize with you, but I’ll try.
Bought 2 pair of 36x32 jeans at Bi-Mart this morning. Haven’t worn a 36 in 15 years.
Going back to the kids’ house now for more family fun, and food.
You are such an inspiration! I went off low-carb for thanksgiving (I am only doing maintenance right now anyway, not the serious stuff!) and, as usual, found I didn’t enjoy all the forbidden things like I thought I would.
And then there was that chocolate pie. Whipped cream on top, a real homemade crust. Oh my.
Isn’t buying smaller pants great? Keep at least one thing from your largest days so you can astound yourself later.
