My husband tried to die last night.

It is possible, but not likely that I will come up allergic to cats eventually. But I’ve been around cats my whole life, and that reduces the likelyhood of an allergy developing in the case of things like cats. (It is different with food allergies, I am led to understand.)

Yeah - you’re paying for the idiot-resistant delivery mechanism. And as far as I know there’s no generic version; I guess the market isn’t big enough.

I remember seeing on the packaging that there would be some medication left; I wonder why so much extra is needed to make the thing work. (oh yeah - the banana died a few hours after I treated it. I guess epinephrine isn’t an appropriate treatment for age spots ;))

That’s very interesting. You see, I’m allergic to the contrast dye used in CT scans (go go hives) AND my mouth gets numb from scallops. So perhaps I should avoid scallops. That’s a dismal thing to contemplate since I do love scallops. But I am also quite fond of breathing.

Contrary, so are you allergic to all shellfish? My son that is allergic to bee stings is also now allergic to all shellfish. He can’t even eat that imitation crab stuff because it has flavoring derived from real shellfish. In his case, I think he over-exposed himself, thus causing the allergy, by eating a metric ton of shrimp at Christmas and again visiting his Maine grandparents a week later. If anybody needs to correct me on this, feel free. I don’t remember where I read/heard about this theory.

I wouldn’t have classified myself as allergic to even the scallops. But no one else I know gets a numb mouth when eating them. Shrimp is fine, no numbness, and I don’t really eat many other kinds of shellfish.

I do have issues with pineapple (tingles, rash around my lips but not a full blown allergic reaction), however kiwi is fine. From what I’ve read, those two usually go together.

Latex is very bad, but I don’t get hives–my skin breaks down and bleeds where it’s used.

Sulfa gives me hives, also Z pack or however you spell that antibiotic.

So yeah I dunno about having an actual shellfish allergy. But I can’t have the contrast dye any more with the CT scans because I got hives the third time I had one done.

Geeze I’m all about the hives I guess.

You probably are allergic to shellfish. You should be tested. If one reacts to contrast with a rash once, the next time, it can be a full blown anaphylatic reaction. The same with shellfish. The numbness around your mouth could easily be a more deadly reaction in the future. GET TESTED.

And meanwhile - STOP EATING SHELLFISH!

Don’t take that sort of chance (says the woman who has stopped eating several favorite foods due to allergies)
