My Idea: Faux Viande.

I got this idea a couple of years ago. I know my French is probably way off, but faux viande translates loosely to “fake meat” (think of faux fur, etc.). As I’ve said before, I am in many ways vegetarian in principle, but meat eater in practice. But I figured for those people who are really vegan, or even just for those who want a change of pace, faux viande might be the way to go.

What is faux viande? It is a soy (or other)-based meat substitute that has absolutely no resemblance to real meat. Up until now, I’ve noticed, meat substitutes are made to imitate real meat: fake beef, fake pork and the like. But faux viande resembles nothing that has heretofore existed under the sun. And get this: I imagine each of these fake meats have fancy French names, descriptive of what they taste, etc. like no doubt.

If I or anyone put my plan to market, I don’t know if it would do too well. After all, a couple of years back, someone did mass market a vegetarian patty (I forget its name) with disasterous results IIRC. So clearly, my faux viande would have to be marketed very carefully. I think it would either have to appeal to something everyone wants (like to have a healthy substitute for meat). Or it would have to be marketed to a very serious, loyal, subgroup of vegans and vegetarians, that somehow keep my company afloat with their diehard loyalty to my product.

Seriously though, unless someone else (with $$) wants to market my idea, I have no plans of doing anything with it. But I would like hearing other people’s feelings on my product idea. Anyone know someone with alot of money  ?

I think you’re too late. Boca Burgers and Garden Burgers come in meat flavors and veggie flavors, the latter are not even really brown but more green.

P.S. I went to one Kraft company picnic where they had Boca Cheeseburgers and traditional cheeseburgers, but they wouldn’t tell us which was which. With lettuce, tomato, and onion, nobody could tell, but we were sure the kids who ate plain burgers would know. They did offer differing opinions, but in the end it was revealed that all had been Boca Burgers.
