My iPhone makes my speakers fuzzy

So I have an iPhone, and I have speakers hooked up to my computer.

If my iPhone is close to my computer, I periodically hear feedback from my speakers. It doesn’t happen all the time; maybe just when the iPhone accesses the web, like to check for emails.

Is there anything I can do to make it stop? I need to keep the phone near me, in case it rings. The feedback is driving me crazy!

I assume these are powered (amplified) speakers.
You could try a shielded cable.
Or better quality speakers.
But, this type of RFI is hard to get rid of.
Good luck.

Any mobile or dect phone will do that if it is too close to the computer.

Yeah… I can hear an incoming call or message about three seconds before the phone rings when I’m at work (iPod dock/speaker) or in the car (phone in compartment right below stereo deck).

Not any. Depends on the frequency/carrier of the phone. My Sprint CDMA phone causes no such interference, but Singular/AT&T phones do.

Maybe Q.E.D. or someone will come by and give us the details.

They can be heard checking in on my plasma TV too.

It’s know as the GSM Buzz. More expensive speakers do not mean that you’ll get rid of this. (Trust me, i’ve had to send back expensive speakers that suffered from this).

You just have to get properly shielded speakers.

I hear this all the time on the craptastic speakers at work. Sometimes I get a few seconds’ advance notice when I’m getting a text message. My speakers at home don’t seem to suffer from the interference as badly, but I did hear it the other day when I happened to lay my phone down right next to one of them.

GSM phones are especially strong sources of interference due to the way they were designed. The interference can be eliminated by using shielded speakers and speaker cables.
