read the terms of use
At least they’re honest.
[slight rant]
I wasn’t too keen on their comments about AOL, though, even though they did say “Generally,” and it didn’t help their case with me to misspell it. Yes, I know all about the rep AOLers have as idiots, and some of them deserve it – just like some users of all other ISPs.
I’m a computer geek from way back, and my first Internet provider was AOL – not by choice but because it was all that was available out here in the sticks, and we still have to pay phone charges. Did that make me a computer moron? I don’t think so. I still have my AOL account as backup to my regular ISP; local service still isn’t 100% reliable, and since I use my Net connection for work, and I’ve (luckily, apparently) never had trouble with AOL, I keep it as a safety net.
[/slight rant]
Back to the OP, if there were an ISP like that around here, I think I’d sign up!
WTF? I use AOL/CS 'cause they gave me $400. I’m a genius with computers…AOL’s just $300 for 3 years ($700-$400 cash at signup) as opposed to any other $20-a-month ISP. I’m smart, but thrifty (read: cheap/broke)
JUST $300??
I’m $300 ahead of that. I use FreeAtLast, which is FREE.
No ad bar. Changes the home page, which you instantly change back, and it’s FREE - NO ADS EVER, AT ALL, ZIP NONE.
Mind if I therefore opine that all AOL users are being suckered?
Oh, I forgot who I’m dealing with. The “computer geek from way back” and the “genius with computers”.
For you, I have to spell it out, don’t I?
Type this into your browser’s address window: FreeAtLast.com
Still can’t figure it out? Try this
Still can’t do it? Fine. Stay with AOL. You and AOL deserve each other. Every Barnum needs a sucker a minute.
Whoa, there, ddibb, how about curbing the attitude?
First of all, who is going to pay the phone bill for connecting to FreeAtLast? (Or maybe you hop down to the public library. That may work for you, but I’m running a business here, and I need access at my desk, not across town.) If none of the national ISPs have a local number in my tiny town, I doubt this outfit does. Or would you like to post the 800 number they provide for users to connect? Yah right. Not everybody lives in an area where the best, most technologically current access is available. I can’t get cable out here either. Yet life goes on.
Second, I said AOL is my secondary account. I’m in the cheapest plan, and I check it maybe twice a week, in case any possible new clients who still have my first business e-mail info on file have inquired about possible work. I use a regular ISP for my daily Net use.
Third, who’s a sucker? I’ve checked out the possibilities, and AOL provides the backup I need for $5/month. I’ve acquired new clients who contacted me via AOL and sent me work that paid for the connection many times over.
So you found a service you like better. Good for you. Why be spiteful because others use something else? I suggest you use up that energy on something more worthwhile, like, say, badminton.
I am in the same boat with Scarlett67.
I have my main ISP but use AOL as a back up if Earthlink is having fits. Since my business is run out of my home and entails the internet I better have all the options available to me as possible.
'Sides, I have a ton of friends on AOL that I party with locally.
So if a self-confessed computer geek should get rid of AOL just because of the stigma attached, I think it’s bull caca.
Hey ddibb, it’s possible to give advice without being a total fuckwad. Try to remember that.
Anyway, I downloaded freeatlast for my work connection, since I’m sick and tired of Juno’s shitty software that craps out all the time. It seems to be working fine so far.
