My Lame/Audacity combo not working. What to do?

I have Audacity, latest version, 1.2.6, IIRC, and wanted to convert wav to mp3. I downloaded the Lame extension, or whate’er it is, and thought that that would fix me up. No dice. When I click on export as mp3, the ‘you need lame, would you like to search’ window comes up. I click yes. It shows a ‘where is lame dll" or something similar, window with desktop in it. Desktop has Some of my other files, and a file for "Micin.dir’. OK…what do I do now to mp3-ize my music?

Thanks,
hh

Hmmm. . . I use Lame with Cakewalk/Sonar and I’m trying to remember how I installed it. . . I’m not having a lot of luck. . .

I think I ran an installer/setup exe for Lame. . . but, I can’t remember how I associated Lame and Sonar. . . I don’t remember it being a big hassel. . . I don’t think it involved running the VST adapter or anything like that.

Sorry, I’m not much help. Time to starting googling and reading and testing. Good luck.

When you get the “Where is Lame.dll?” dialog did you look only on the desktop? I did a search of my computer and found several instances of lame_enc.dll

Just go to Start > Search > All files or Folders and type lame

When I used the LAME encoder with Audacity, the quality of the MP3 was really bad. I ended up using a free product called “WAV to MP3 Encoder”. It does only that: converts WAV files to MP3s. I found it to be very useful. Here is the link if you are interested: http://download.cnet.com/WAV-to-MP3-Encoder/3000-2140_4-10060500.html.

Disclaimer: I have absolutely no connection to “WAV to MP3 Encoder” other than as a satisfied user.
