My Left Foot (or Happy Happy Toe Toe) -- could be TMI

It doesn’t get much more M and P than this, folks . . . but those of you who’ve had ingrown toenails will rejoice with me!

I’ve had this darn thing on my left big toe since 1995. I’ve had it hacked at twice (the second time after bashing it into the side of our van, in which case I saw stars, planets, and a few angels), both times with the big painful needle, and so I have not been eager to go in again. It grew back in two pieces, requiring TLC, a special clipper, and often a Band-Aid worn 24/7 to protect it. One day this spring while getting dressed, I caught it on the hem of my pants while stepping into them – ripping it loose, but not loose enough to remove, and leaving it sticking straight up from my toe, along the right side of the nail bed. Great.

Yesterday THE THING finally came off!! I realized it was looser than usual, and close inspection revealed that only some thin skin was holding it on. I rocked it back and forth, gently, and it popped off. Oh frabjous day! The remaining nail looks as though it might actually grow in looking approximately normal.

Sounds dumb, but oh, what relief. This thing has been such a pain (literally and figuratively) to deal with over the past seven years. Mr. S was nearly as happy as I was, because he’s sick of hearing me bitch about it.
