My Letter to Colin Powell

Here’s what I sent of to the Secretary of State this evening.

I understand he reads and considers much of his mail. You can address him here:

Dear Colin Powell,

At some point, we must all consider if our jobs have value. Even the most stalwart and loyal soldiers must consider whether his commander is leading the team seriously astray, and it is his duty to take action. After the public repudiation of you at the hands of our current President over the UN Family Planning fiasco, it is readily apparent that you have no actual control or influence over the chickenhawks running our country into the ground.

You’ve fought the good fight, but I think you can do no more from your eroded standing. The only thing you do for President Bush now is give him a token black in the administration, a civil rights fig leaf – I assume you were equally disgusted by his recent comment of “Want to talk about what I’ve done on civil rights, I’m at a table with foreign leaders and Condi Rice and Colin Powell.” Yeah, Mr. President, some of your best friends are black cabinet heads. This was insulting to you and Ms. Rice in the extreme. You resignation might well serve as the clarion call that wakes up the nation and the rest of the world to the current administrations frightening unilateral tendencies, and I call upon you to do so.

Regards,
Owen Roth

If you could do me a big favor and add the following:

P.S. Please start pronouncing your goddamn name RIGHT! It’s hell for those people out there who are sick of being called a large intestine.
I thank you for your assistance.

Colin

So… you imagine the best thing for America and Colin Powell would be for him to resign the position of Secretary of State of the most powerful nation on the face of the planet, in order to make a “statement” about how terrible it is that there is a good possibility that his Jamaican racial background positively influenced his selection as Secretary of State?

Hmmm… well I’m the assistant who screens his mail will think it’s an interesting point of view.
