Yeah, I’m with you. Rainbow Dash is the cunt and Rarity and Pinkie Pie are awesome.
NONE of them are…that word which I refuse to use. Rainbow is the most (occasionally) annoying one, and Rarity the one I least would want to spend time with, due to different interests and priorities, but…that they are not.
They are all necessary to make the show work.
Maybe Applejack could have been cut, but it wouldn’t have been as good.

You brave soul. I dislike people saying motherfucker, because the concept it espouses is one I find extremely distasteful. I don’t usually make a show of my distaste, though. Fashion design and sewing are extremely skilled tasks that take a lot of practice and effort. Baking is a useful skill as well and provides a vital service for the ponyville community. Rainbow Dash runs really fast. Forgive me for not thinking that skillset is as valuable as the others.
Rarity’s fashion sense is what is analogous to Dash’s fast flying. Both are rather useless to the Ponyville community without being applied. Rarity’s job is her dressmaking, which uses her fashion sense, and benefits everypony.
Dash’s job is weather control, in which she uses her flying. And we’ve seen she’s quite good at it. (Her dream job, of course, is precision flying with the Thunderbolts, which seems to be more of a performance thing.)
As I recall, she said that she had already done for the second season all of the stuff she’d done for the first season – preproduction work mainly, it would seem. So it’ll be the third season that will be Faustless.
As I understand it, she left because she got pregnant (her Facebook profile pic was a sonogram for a little while). Maybe she’ll be available as a consultant for season 3?

As for Rainbow: I wouldn’t want to interact with someone like that IRL but whenever she takes stage, I know something interesting is going to happen.
Also, weather control beats pretty clothes.

And see, when I found out that the ponies actually have to change the weather and the seasons, my first thought was what a needy environment. Glad I don’t live there.
There’s a number of rather dark explanations fanon has come up with:
- The ponies are oppressing the natural cycle worse than we humans ever could.
- Celestia has been lying to and indoctrinating them; their actions don’t actually matter, but it keeps the populace obedient and busy.
- (My personal in-fic explanation) The planet’s natural resources have been depleted to where the environment would collapse into a desolate wasteland without the ponies actively opposing entropy.

Well, the one place where the weather works on its own is the Everfree Forest, a pretty creepy place. I don’t know what that means, though.
Favorite ep? That’s hard!
The sense I got from the show was it’s creepy to the ponies only because nature works on its own there, but otherwise there’s no inherent danger (other than the wild beasts living there, anyway).
