“So…you like fans, eh? They’re such beautiful, delicate things. Pity if something happened to them.”
sneezes flame dangerously close to the fans
“Oh dear. My apologies. You know, you should really give Rarity another chance…”
Yes SHE IS! I watched a version of the Phantom Menance with Jar-Jar mostly edited out and it sucked. Shows can no more do without annoying clowns than we can in real life.
Is this entire thread an elaborate joke?
You’d feel better if it were, wouldn’t you? : )
If it is, the joke’s on me for liking something everyone else is subtly mocking.
No. It’s actually a good show, despite being about My Little Ponies.
I’m watching Applebucking Season – again! I’ve seen them all but I guess I’ll have to content myself with old ones. Do you guys think the new ones will be any good despite the lack of Lauren Faust?
I always click on Brony Talk (thhe good one), whenever I’m in the Straight Dope, to see what everypony is up to.
Applebuck season is my favourite - I love Applejack. That accent! How can you people not love her the most. “Don’t you use your fancy mathematics to muddy the issue!”
I’m hoping the representation of boys will improve in future eps. The boy characters on MLP so far have been total dolts and practically retarded, or bullies. I feel a bit sorry for little brothers watching this show with their sisters. I’m not talking about the grown men who like MLP, but impressionable young boys. We don’t need romance on MLP, but maybe some more likable boy characters like Spike.
I don’t dislike her, but she doesn’t really do anything to make me like her either. She’s just there.
They could learn to have an appreciation for interesting female characters.
True, but I think they would be more receptive if there was some good male characters too, or at least not total morons like the ones I’ve seen so far.
A couple of likeable boy ponies would be a good thing, imo.
Big Macintosh is a likeable boy pony.
But I get what you mean. I think I remember Faust saying something along the lines of wanting a better male-female ratio in Ponyville but fighting with Hasbro over it. Can’t remember the exact place for a cite though.
Do You think they might have a main villain for next season?
Well, all the adult male ponies aren’t morons, it’s just the two little colts who are the problem.
Off the top of my head,
Hoity-Toity - A fashion expert
Big Mackintosh - A apple-farming expert
Braeburn/Sheriff Silverstar - Cowboys
Pinkie Pie’s boss - cakemaker
The only bad adult male is the Prince, but he had to be bad for Rarity to learn her lesson.
That sounds like a great idea - I wish they had done that. I wonder what the reason was behind Hasbro’s decision?
Yeah, it was the boy ponies (ok colts!) I was talking about. I would like to see just a smattering of normal boy ponies.
Giving more air time to girl ponies, since female viewers, especially young ones, will mainly identify with fellow females. More identification, more willinness to buy the merchandise.
You might retort that evidently, males can like the show as well, but I don’t think they exptected the brony phenomenon when they made the show.
Also, it’s easier to make female ponies kawaii than male ponies.
Then there are the male ponies in Cloudsdale who keep giving Rainbow Dash a hard time.
Regarding the Cutie Mark Crusaders:
Obviously Apple Bloom is Apple Jack’s sister, and Sweetie Belle is Rarity’s sister. It makes me wonder if Scootaloo is related to Rainbow Dash. She has similar personality traits and athletic ability, even a similar shape to her hair. At the end of “The Show Stoppers”, when the CMC won for best comedy act and were hanging out backstage, Apple Jack, Rarity, and Rainbow Dash were there to meet them. Would Dash be back there for support if the two weren’t related?
I came up with a theory regarding this: Rainbow Dash’s father cheated on his wife and had a second filly, Scootaloo, by a different mother. Dash and Scootaloo are half sisters, though they don’t acknowledge each other as such to avoid scandal. It’s not something anypony talks about in polite conversation, but it’s one of those things that everypony knows.
What about Big MacIntosh? He comes off as a little slow but I don’t think he really is. Plus, he’s got a good heart.
ETA: Ack, sorry, didn’t see page four.
I am surprised about the briny phenomenon. Has any other kids shows attracted a following outside the intended demographic?
