Some years ago, a rubber-banded stack of mail - all different local addresses & streets - was left in my mail box. I took it to the post office & spoke with the manager, explaining that it was likely the mail delivery person made more money than I, so I did not feel it was my duty to deliver the mail correctly. Problem solved.
Recently, a card was delivered - not only the wrong street, but not even close to my house number! I had to mail some bills, so I dropped it in the drive-by mail box outside the post office. Sure enough, two days later, IT WAS DELIVERED TO MY HOUSE AGAIN! Knowing it was a card of some sort, and concerned that it might be a condolences card, I MapQuested the address, drove it over there, & explained to the person what had happened. Fortunately, it was a birthday card, and - ironically enough - I delivered it ON her birthday.
Things happen for a reason, I guess. But some of the things I read on this thread make my hair stand on end.
The place I previously lived, the mail carrier wouldn’t take the outbound mail from our mail box, (and yes, they are supposed to). Even today my husband won’t put outbound letters in the mail box and we don’t even live in that neighborhood anymore.
So far we have a good set of carriers now, I haven’t had any problems lately besides the occasional receiving of a piece of the neighbor’s mail and vice versa.
We’ve got a new neighbour whose last name is somewhat similar to mine (like Jensen and Jonsson) and we keep getting his mail. Nevermind that our mailboxes are right next to each other and our first names are completely different - we have similar last names, we must be family.
My favourite mail mix-up story is from when I was a student. I was going home for the summer so I notified the post office of the temporary change of address. Not only did they continue to put my mail in the mail box at my student dorm, they actually forwarded the postcard I sent to my mother when on holiday to my student dorm. :smack:
