Dang it! My monitor is dieing and it’s only a couple of years old. Walked into the bedroom this afternoon and smelled something like hot electronics. Had just cleaned the window unit A/C in the room and thought I had done something to it. Sniffing around though, the air conditioner smelled fine but the monitor smelled a little funny.
No more noticable smell in the room now, but the left edge of the screen is blurry now. I thought at first I was looking at it through the wrong part of my glasses, got bifocals a couple of months ago. Changing resolution moves the blurryness, but I have to run at 800x600 pixels now to be able to read anything without eyestrain.
This sucks. Just replaced the computer with a Dell around the New Year as the old one got flaky. Opted at the time not to get a monitor as the one I had was so new (only saved $50 doing so).
Was trying to hold out for a flat panel monitor but a quick look at Best Buy online shows the cheapest at $500. I’m going on vacation in a week, where I plan to spend a lot of money (at least I saved for that). I guess here’s another charge on my credit card. Maybe I can find a good deal in San Diego while I’m there. Won’t have room in the car for a traditional monitor but maybe a flat panel one will fit in my car.
Sucks also because I need to replace my VCR too. It doesn’t want to eject tapes easily anymore and doesn’t seem to record as sharp a picture as it did. (Bought it around 1997.) Was going to shop for one of them on my trip.
At least the tree branch I ran over Wednesday night didn’t do any apparent damage to my car. Other than puting a small gouge in the lower part of my bumper below the fog light, which is going to require grinding and bondo to fix.
Blah. Why does it seem that the more one tries to save money, the more expenses come up.
