Dictionary.com just emailed me this gem, their “Word of the Day.”
booboisie \boob-wah-ZEE, noun:

I usually visit their site daily. Today I did not, and woulda missed a great word.
You like cool words? How about growlery ( “a retreat for times of ill humour”), kenspeckle ( “easily recognizable or distinguishable”), lucubration ( “study going on long into the night”), ultracrepidate ( “to criticize beyond one’s sphere of knowledge”; this should surely be an official SDMB word), vilipend ( “to disparage mockingly”) and my current personal favourite mumpsimus ( “a view stubbornly held even when shown to be wrong; one holding such a view”; this one should also be an SDMB word)?
ultracrepidate, mumpsimus, vilipend. Those are indeed good words. Thanks!

now there’s a real word
I can honestly say that from the 920 words of the day I have received from Dr Dictionary, booboisie is perhaps my favourite.
In checking back over some of those 920, I was horrified to find so many double ups. Accede, billingsgate, bootless, cadre, circumambient, coeval… and that’s just (obviously) up to “C”.
You don’t have to. You can make it email you the word every day automatically. http://dictionary.reference.com/wordoftheday/list/
Great words!
I’ve become fond of “absquatulate,” a conflation of abscond, squat, and perambulate, meaning to take up and leave in a hurry.
How about:
lactomangulation, which is the term for mangling the opening of the right side of the milk carton so badly that you have to try the other side? (you know, the wrong side of the milk carton?)
