My Old Laptop

Mods: I think this is GQ (?)

About 3 years ago my beloved laptop (HP Pavilion N5240) died. I was told it was the motherboard.

I simply bought a new HP laptop & the dead computer just went in the closet. I had most of my important files backed up on CD so it wasn’t too traumatic.

Suddenly it’s occurred to me that there is probably some interesting stuff I’d like to recover from that old hard drive. I took it out of the closet and pulled it apart & now i have the old hard drive here in my hand. (It is a Toshiba HDD2158; 20GB).

How can I plug it in (as a 2nd drive) and recover the old documents?

And, much less importantly, is there anything cool I can do with the rest of the old laptop? Dual monitor? DVD player?

Buy a USB enclosure. Ensure that your drive is a 2.5" one. If it’s in a laptop it almost certainly is.

If your motherboard is fried it’s nothing more than a paper weight.
