I’m a huge fan of TV Tropes, and just realized today that I can’t seem to find anything about movie characters renouncing long-held ambitions. Character has been working toward a dream that is constantly thwarted, finally gets a chance to impress the right people while he or she is working a crappy backup job, and then, when the offer to take the dream job comes, declares he or she will stick with their backup. I’m not sure if I’m not looking in the right spot or this has somehow never been written up.
