My Pointless Rant About Everything Volume One (long)

The following are just some points I have to share with the world. These are nothing my own opinions and everyone has their own opinions. Rip me all you want, lord knows you would not be the first. Here goes-

To all the people giving The Dixie Chicks shit-
Lay off! They are just people telling people what they think. They are American and thus free to say whatever the hell they want to about whomever they want to say it. Look, I like music (not The Dixie Chicks just so you know) and I don’t give a shit what the musician is all about as long as their music is good. I don’t care that Marilyn Manson thinks he is the anti-christ, or that Eminim does not like gays. So they don’t like the president, big freaking deal. People did not like the president during the whole election thing, and people did not like Clinton, or Bush Sr, or Reagan, or Ford, or Nixon, or Carter etc etc etc. Lets see what happens when society starts dictating what we can and cannot think about our president, the next step is a government dictating what we can and cannot think about the government <cough>Iraq</cough> Get over it.

To all the people giving Michael Moore shit-
Even more LAY OFF! He said nothing anti-american, or pro-iraq. He only said he does not believe that Bush won the election in the manner elected officials are intended to win elections and that he does not support the war in Iraq. That is all he said. Make him out to be whatever kind of villain you like, but he had a right to say it and he did, god bless him.

To all the people with their “our poor troops” shit -
Keep in mind one simple thing, they signed up for this crap. No one, I repeat NO ONE forced them to raise their right had and swear before god that they would defend the country from all threats. No one said that only meant so long as they don’t have to actually FIGHT a war, or go to some dirty country thousands of miles from home and do their freaking job! What about “our poor postal workers”? “Our poor 7-11 clerks” they are doing a job and so is the military.

To the people so sad and torn up about the Columbia -
What the fuck? They left the freaking earth in a spaceship and something wrong happened?!? Who the hell cares? It was 7 damn people! What about the hundreds of above mentioned military personal that dies during training exercises? Not even front page news. It like a lion trainer. We go see a guy stick his freaking head into a lion’s mouth because it is exciting, why is it exciting? Because the damn lion could close his mouth and bite the fucking trainers head off. Although not likely, it could happen, that is why we are all so into it. So what happens when the lion DOES bite down and rip the little trainer to shreds? Everyone gets all sad and cries out what a tragedy it was. No it freaking wasn’t! It is a risk inherent in the system. Get into a spaceship, blast your ass off into the great unknown at a million dame miles an hour (don’t forget to do that you’ll need a million gallons of freaking rocket fuel strapped to your back) and test weather froggies can mate in zero gravity. Then on top of all that, try to get your happy ass back onto earth without blowing your freaking ass up. Sounds to me like pretty risky behavior to me, that once again the people signed up for on their own. So if they do blow their asses up, occupational hazard, not great tragedy.

Well it is late and I need sleep. More to come later…
By the way, I am not meaning anything personal toward anyone touched by the war or the Columbia crash in anyway. Please do not respond with “My brother is in Iraq and let me tell you something” I am only stating my opinion and nothing more. Much like how censorship should be, if you don’t like it and don’t want to hear it, read it or see it, turn off the set, turn down the dial, click on the back button. Thank you goodnight.

Agreed. May we also agree that those who disagree with the Chicks Dixie also have the right to yell their opinions at people?

He made a political speech at a forum where politicking is frowned upon. You know that Hollywood has a reputation for loony leftism, so there were probably a great deal of people in the audience who agreed with him. Nonetheless, his choice to hijack an event designed to celebrate motion pictures in order to spew political trollery was tasteless and obnoxious. That is why people were booing at him, and that is why I think he’s an ass.

OK. It’s half past three in the morning, so I might not have all the lights on upstairs. Let me see if I’ve got this straight:

Because our troops are volunteers, it is wrong to feel sympathy for them and to hope for their safe return. Awright.

Uhhh, why?

It was more than just seven people. The Columbia was a national institution and an invaluable tool for the advancement of Science. The people who mourn its loss are concerned for things besides just the people on board. Lots of people have a strong emotional attachement to the space program, and a loss for the program affects them emotionally as well. Why is that wrong?

Thank you for sharing my opinion. Allow me to share mine: You are a callous asshole with logic that leaps like a ballerine and a heart like dried apricot. Tiny, whithered, and it gives me the shits.

Your post had my support except for this.

Do you also think the NYPD firemen who died or suffered in the WTC tragedy should not get our sympathy? They also signed up for that crap. No one forced them to become firemen at gunpoint.

There are many jobs where people accept positions by their own free will and train to learn how to do things we hope they never have to do. It is entirely appropriate to express support and sympathy when it turns out they do have to do those difficult things.

It is a sad thing when hard-working men and women have to put their lives on the line because powerful people above them can’t learn how to be decent world citizens and do the right thing. I don’t care that the troops signed up knowing they might have to go to war. I still grieve that there IS war. I am sorry that men and women who live in a great country and work for that great country are now lying on some shitty desert ground to sleep and drinking gross-tasting water and rubbing sand out of their eyes. Yeah, I think that sucks, and I don’t think they deserve it. I am profoundly grateful. And I extend that gratitude --albeit with a little less poignancy–to anyone who does a difficult job, whether that’s dealing with the beligerant drunks at 7-11 or teaching math to hormonal 7th graders.

My only point about the troops was that they know the risks inherent with the position. I do not mean that I don’t wish them a safe return. I served in the military (during peace time) I know what the military is about. I think they need not get anything more that anyone who is injured or killed in their line of duty. Same goes for firemen, police men and the like. A good deal of the firemen that died in the WTC died because they ran into a burning building to rescue people. That is wonderful, that is one of the bravest things any human can do. That is also their job. That is why they get paid. One of the reasons I do not post on here a lot is that I have a real problem getting what is in my mind down in words that explain what I am thinking. I did not mean to sound like such a dick; it just came out that way. I am not saying the military, the firemen, the police, the astronauts do not deserve to be mourned, or do not deserve media attention. What I meant is how does dying in the line of duty make you a hero? I just think the word hero has become overused, perhaps that is all I needed to say.

So what is more heroic than placing your life on the line for another (faceless) person? Surely not scoring 16 touchdowns in a football game. :dubious:

16 touchdowns in a single football game? Was the losing team recruited from the local retirement home?
