This is really weird. Now I’m not even sure if your cow-orker even got the point of the photo. Did she think it was all about Dacshle pledging with his left hand over his heart, or about Hillary not covering her heart at all? Because, looking at fbmf’s (welcome to the SDMB, btw, fbmf) link shows neither are true.
The textual deconstruction of the photo disproves the Daschle charge, and close examination of the photo itself* shows Senator Clinton’s elbow bent in the conventional manner.
*[sub]admittedly, a copy of the photo printed out on a b&w printer would make this fact put-near impossible to ascertain.[/sub]
Okay, the point of the picture was Sen. Daschle. But then she added, “And look, Hillary doesn’t have her arm up at all.” She had printed the picture out on a color printer, but Sen. Clinton appears to be wearing black, which makes it hard to tell if her arm is bent or not. I pointed that out, and my coworker said “But later they said that she had just been standing there.” I’m not sure exactly what that was supposed to mean, but she seemed to think that the senator was not lifting her arm.
In the real picture, it seems clear to me that Sen. Clinton is in fact lifting her arm normally. I printed it out in black & white, and it’s still clear.
Yeah, well I don’t let them get away with it. Some fuckhole tells me I’m not American, or Spanish, or German, or whatever the fuck I am, they would get an earfull of blistering vitriol.
Not only is the picture a hoax, but Hilary does, indeed, have her hand over her heart–you can see her elbow is bent, and the rest of her arm is hidden. So your co-worker doesn’t seem to be running on all cylinders, to me.
God fucking dammit. I wrote a nice post about how fucking over this I am, and the fucking hamsters fucking ate it.
Anyway. I am constitutionally unable to stay angry for an extended period of time, so I’ve moved on. Unless my coworker says something similar in the future (things seem to be normal between us), in which case, watch for future Pit threads. Thank you all for swearing a lot on my behalf.
I’m 29 and don’t have a license. I had one for a few months when I was 21 or something, then didn’t bother to get a new one when I lost it in the wash.
Something like that wouldn’t both me too much. I’m not american for a start…
Seriously though, from the sounds of it, you don’t really respect her views at all. And i can’t say i’d blame you. Either her concept of " being an American" is totally different to yours, or she hasn’t bothered to think about her political views at all. In either case, whats the problem? She’s either ignorant, or she’s saying you don’t fit her definition of an american. I’m guessing most americans wouldn’t fit her definition of american.
I wouldn’t be offended if someone said i wasn’t British, i’d just be a little bemused. I think her comment says a lot more about her than it does about you…
I respect her views. I don’t agree with any of them, but I respect her right to believe whatever crazy things she wants to believe. I don’t condemn her as being a traitor to the country or whatever for her views. Would that she gave me that same respect. :: sigh ::
