My roommate died at 2:00am. They hauled off his remains at 12:20pm

If I had known he was still over there I might not have slept so well, but at least his TV was off.

Condolences.

Yeah, I was gonna ask you about that TV.

You’d be amazed how many sports contests are on at 3am

Nice of you, but I didn’t really know the guy.

I know hospitals and care centers are short-staffed, but 10 hours seems a bit crazy.

When my dad died, the crematorium had a vehicle there to pick him up before 2 hours had passed. The oxygen supply company came to pick up their equipment within 30 minutes. He was on hospice notice and everyone knew but I was surprised by the efficiency. Pre-covid, of course.

I wouldn’t care if they took that long if they had packed him off to a closet or something, but they left him six.feet from me. Gross.

Maybe they were just making sure that he was really dead.

ahhh…

“I think I’ll go for a walk.”
“You’re not fooling anybody.”

I feel like I’m missing something here.

That is very much like how it started. He would try to stand up, then he’d fall down. He got farther last night because I wasn’t awake to turn him in.

It’s one of my stories, so I wouldn’t be surprised.

OH!

I had forgotten that you were in a hospital-type setting. When I saw the thread title, I was thinking of an ekedolphin-and-his-landlord-type of thing.

If he slept through it, how did he know the time of death?

I was unaware of the setting, assumed apartment, was rather confused.

I’m guessing that once he’d passed, they had to contact family and find out what funeral home needed to come and retrieve his remains. That could take some time, considering it was 2 am when he actually passed.

Not that it makes hanging out next to a dead body any better, but it does explain it.

Was Dropzone’s roomie a tropical fish? I’ve definitely done the wait-a-bit-to-see-if-it’s-really-dead thing with those guys…

It was noisy and when the discussion turned to the presence or absence of a DNR order, I needed to run a quick survey to make sure they weren’t talking about me. They weren’t.

Yeah, that was their explanation.

So did you grab him a pair of sunglasses and pull some Weekend at Bernie’s antics? C’mon, you can tell us.
