My Satellite dish

Hello all,

I come seeking information about satellite. When I moved into my new house a couple months ago, I noticed the former owners left a dish behind. This gave me a wonderful idea. Seeing as how I am no longer living with roommates, I think it might be time to move away from the expensive cable bills from Rogers, and buy a couple of satellite receivers so I no longer have a monthly fee.

Anyways, my questions to you are as follows:

  • Does the type/brand of satellite dish that I have matter when it comes to my ability to receive a signal via a viewsat 9000 or some similar “signal stealing” receiver?

  • Does the dish matter when it comes to HD vs NO HD?

  • Is this easy to hook up? Will I have to do any serious re-wiring in my home, or can I just hook the satellite into my cable box outside?

  • Is there anything else I need to know before diving into this, aside from the fact that I will sometimes go with no tv at all until I can acquire a “new code”?
