My six-year-old Golden swallowed a penny when he was one. Is it possible he never pooped it out?

See subject. We saw it on an x-ray when we brought him in for a different reason. Totally forgot about until now.

I’d think it much more likely that he’s eaten a completely different penny some time recently.

i’m not an expert… but i think it’s unlikely. Dogs usually poop out foreign objects by, at most, 3 days after ingesting. Or at least Throw It Up.

Are you thinking it could be something else?

I’m willing to bet that In The Whole History of Canids, a dog has swallowed something that HAS remained in his gut, but given the age of the dog, and presuming he was active and ran and played like an average golden- i’m apt to think it’s something else, most likely something that lodged in there more recently. Particularly given that he’s never exhibited alarming symptoms before now.

A Vet’s on the case, tho, so hopefully you’ll benefit from their Wisdom.

keep me up to date! And give your baby a scratch and tummy rub for me…

{from what i understand, pennies minted after 1983 contain a good deal of Zinc and are toxic. Such toxicity would likely have manifested in symptoms years ago…}

I don’t know how you think Buddy is currently sick or dealing with coin snarling, except for reflexive empathy/sympathy on your part–which of course is why I hang out here. Buddy, bless his twitching sleeping carpet-with-a-small-head form, is healthy as a horse. (We took him in back then when had pneumonia, and we actually weren’t sure if he’d make it.)

My question was of the idle “If a six-year-old dog swallowed a penny when he was one, is there any chance he never pooped it out”-variety. Idle, but makes it into GQ under the wire.
ETA: I just saw how you thought that he was sick. It’s because I can’t write a fucking coherent sentence.

Leo, you just need to keep spare change out of Buddy’s reach.

In our house, the ultimate retriever temptation is socks. Sad experience has taught us that they don’t always get pooped out.

Hi leo,

Just concerned for a possibly overwrought parent and a God… i mean, Dog…

I’m also rather hyper-literal and Very New to interweb culture {and technology. and Life}. Please forgive me if i goof or am trying too hard. I see that this Board is rather like it;s own small community… i do Mean Well.

Well, for one thing don’t capitalize every noun under creation.

I call that “Pooh Case,” where Certain Words are capitalized Meaningfully, like when Winnie the Pooh talks.

Poo Case. How very appropriate.

I also use Pooh case from time to time, when Important Things need to be discussed. It’s very handy.
