My son-dog is in the hospital.

First my father died, then we lost our house, and now my 3-year-old dog is in the hospital with gastrointestinal blockage or pancreatitis, we’re waiting to hear which one. This is all within a 5-month period.

So far being 40 has sucked.

Good luck to your dog. I had a dog with GDV (Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus) who survived surgery that took 1/3 of her stomach.

I’m sorry you’ve been dealing with all of this. I hope the pup is ok.

Oh, man! I hope he’s ok. Hugs.

The vet is now saying she believes fragments of his toy rope are wrapped around his stomach on the inside and she needs to operate tonight. With a high 4-digit price tag, of course. But, you do what you have to do for your furry children.

It’s just ironic this is the exact sort of thing that would have been alleviated had I received even the slightest bit of my father’s life insurance money, as detailed in that other thread. As it is, I’m not even sure we can move now (as detailed in the *other * thread) because the surgery is so expensive.

Be careful if you let your dogs play with ropes, by the way.

Dude, you are having a rough time. Here’s hoping the surgery goes off as planned. Surely things will look up soon.
My old Granny used to say bad things come in 3s and then something wonderful will happen. Here’s hoping!

I’m sorry to hear this. I just went through a very expensive month with my beloved cat. Yes, we do what we need to for our fur children. Sending good thoughts for a good outcome all the way around. Keep your chin up. {{{HUGS}}}

DooWahDiddy - Do you know about CareCredit? It’s a credit card for health expenses, including for pets. For shorter-term loans, they don’t charge interest. For large extended debt, they do, but they’ll extend out your payments for 60 months. You might want to check into it.

Yes, actually we’re using that, thanks. Another layer to this whole thing is that I’m down in Florida working, while my wife is in NYC with Bowery. So she’s handling this whole thing by herself. She’s the one who told me about CareCredit.

The update, though, is good: he is out of surgery and did great! They’re keeping him overnight but she can go see him tomorrow morning. They found that it actually wasn’t the rope; there was a black cloth fabric inside his stomach. We have no idea where it came from but they’re saving it so we can see it.

He’s not the kind of dog to gobble up everything in sight. For a short time he had an agent, and was up for national commercials; he’s very well-behaved. When we put food in front of him he doesn’t go for it until we say so. So it’s very odd that something like that ended up in his belly. The only thing I can think of is maybe it was hidden in a snowbank and he somehow ended up eating it.

Thank you all for your well-wishes!

Thanks gosh; so hard. Glad to hear he’s getting better.

What wonderful news! However, now that the danger has mostly passed, we need to enforce the mandatory pics rule.

Are you missing any black socks?

Hope he’s feeling much better very soon!

I’m glad it went well.

Will we get pics of the patient when he’s back?

Ha, well he’s on Instagram, if you’re so inclined to pay him a visit there.

Oh my, what a peach! I really hope he’s feeling much better!

Geez, that dog’s so unloved! :stuck_out_tongue: What a cutie!

Glad to hear he’s doing better.
