I already own one but a cow-orker of mine is looking to buy one for his kid and we were discussing features.
The list he would like to see in an MP3 player;
FM reciever
2 gig or better
User serviceable battery
Voice recorder
One that can be used for swapping files, e.g. used like a usb drive for music and/or ordinary school stuff (without special software or hacking skills).
Does not have to play video but that would nice
Shan’t cost a million dollars
Not tech-savvy really, but the one I use is capable of all those things (except play video). Cost me 65 dollars at WalMart (plus 25 bucks for a 2 gig flash memory stick).
Several similar to mine (but a little improved) can be seen here:
I realize WalMart is evil, but you’ll never convince my mother of that, and she’s the one who got the MP3 play for me as a gift.
I recommend a Sanyo Sandisk from the M series. The M250 has 2 GB, an FM receiver, uses a standard AAA battery, has a voice recorder function, and operates like a standard USB drive. It doesn’t do video.
Also, it is currently selling for about 90 bucks on amazon.
I didn’t know if I should start a new thread or piggyback on one of the many mp3 player threads. I’m in the market for one (NOT an iPod) and have been reading several threads. SanDisk seems to be the one people are mentioning most often. This one is the one I’m leaning toward. But I have a question.
I want this for exercising (treadmill, stationary bike, raquetball) and when I’m exercising I most often wear a t-shirt with a front pocket. The mp3 player I get HAS to fit into that pocket, so my question is, will this one fit? All the pictures make it look huge with a fat bottom. Is it smaller than it looks?
I would go with something from iRiver, something like this. I think the only thing missing from your list on this is the serviceable battery, but I have a 3 year old iRiver player that is still going strong and hasn’t lost any charge.
