Many many years ago, Radio Shack sold a digital watch that was also a universal remote. A friend of mine had one and amused himself in the same way.
I forget what movie or TV show it was, the cleverly obnoxious teenage kid was doing his thing - he’d put a sort of reflective tube or telescope lens or something in from of a universal remote, and would annoy the old lady across the street by randomly turning her TV off or on through the picture window, or changing channels, or stuff like that from his living room.
