So I am home alone with my daughter who is 3 and we are sleeping in one bedroom. And I get up to pee at midnight and walk down the hall and everything is off. So I getup to pee again at 4am and I notice there is light in the living room. Go in there and the tv is on. I’m freaked out because it’s all on. It’s connected to a tuner home theatre etc and it’s all on and working. How does this happen?
I searched my house and found a guest bedroom tv on as well. But that is a regular tube tv with a cablebox. So now I’m scared but I’m not sure of what. The tv in the master bedroom was off and didn’t turn on by itself. My house is really soundproof and I didnt hear anyone walking through it.
My toddler didn’t wake up and doesn’t know how to turn on the home theatre tv hookup. I’m baffled and a little scared there must be a logical reason. This must of happened to someone else where TVs turned on but not all of them.
Not too long ago, we had a TV keep turning on for no apparent reason. At first I thought it was a flaky remote that kept triggering it, but removing the remote didn’t make a difference. Pulling the plug did, so that TV got tossed out.
I’d be inclined to suspect random signals from remotes for turning on your TVs. Could neighbor kids perhaps be wandering around aiming clickers at houses to turn things on? Dunno if that’s even possible, but that’s my first thought.
Holy crap, how much water do you drink that you need to pee twice in one night? Some possibilities:
You sleep walk.
Sometimes I inadvertently click the remote twice. The tv turns off, and then a second later turns back on. Perhaps you did this.
A 3 year old is old enough to figure out a clicker. They just watch what you do. So maybe she got up in the middle of the night and wanted to watch Sesame Street.
A ghost was trying to get the phone number to order The Juicer.
A prankster broke into your house, stole the remotes, and is standing outside the windows clicking on the tv’s after they see you get up.
A murderer turned on the t.v. and was waiting to ambush you when you walked into the room to turn it off. Don’t do it.
Is it possible that the TV has some sort of alarm on it? I had a stereo that would turn itself on every night at midnight. I couldn’t always hear it so I didn’t know it was going on.
It’s also possible that the TVs and cable boxes can talk to each other and for some reason the cable box is sending out a signal telling them to turn on.
ETA, both my kids can and did know how to turn on the TV and DVD players at 3 and younger.
I hope it’s not a ghost because that would be the worst scenario.
Fairychatmom- I’m not sure if it’s kids because they don’t live nearby and it’s 4 in the morning here.
Maybe it’s the remote. But the one downstairs uses a programmed remote to turn everything on and the one upstairs uses the cable company remote. It is weird and unsettling. I’m going to call the cable company.
I’m pregnant that’s why I’m up a lot too pee and I don’t sleep walk because I barely can get into a deep sleep then I wake up having to pee.
Well my toddler is still sound asleep beside me so I know it wasn’t her and she can’t figure out the home theatre remote. It takes several button clicks to turn on.
I’m hoping it is some cable company glitch that powered two TVs.
My laptop turns on my TV’s. It has an IR signal for moving data (something I never use). It just turns the TV’s on if left anywhere near them!
It did it mostly with Phillips brand TV’s, but it can happen to others. DROVE ME CRAZY! If my laptop wasn’t out for repair, it would have NEVER figured it out.
Lenovo laptop and Phillips TV’s. Would always turn both of them on. Can happen to others, too. The only thing the laptop did was turn the sets on – never turned them off or changed channels…
I have a new stereo receiver with a remote control. Turning on the overhead light in the room often makes the stereo do something random; evidently it’s an IR remote without a very complex signal.
I don’t know if this is anything like your situation; I think it’s far more likely the alien/satanic fetus inside you is controlling your mind and making you get up and watch infomercials so they can learn how to best enslave humanity, then blanking your memory of it.
Ah, I understand. I’m also pregnant and regular stuff that would normally just seem strange or odd freaks me out now too. The pregnancy hormones seem to have turned all of my emotions and reactions up to 11 so I react to everything like it is extreme.
As far as your stuff turning on my guess is that your neighbor got a new remote and it is accidentally activating your TV. I think that a ghost is the least of your worries, mostly because unless this is a brand new house for you or you recently rented out your backyard as a burial ground a ghost would have made itself known long before this point.
