My wife caught me last night...

Don’t tell my wife.

Questions for all of you:

Which role is your favourite for you to play, and why?

Which opera is your favourite, and why?

Which is your favourite venue, and why?

What would it take to get a full blown production to visit Thunder Bay, Ontario?

We have a thread set up just for questions.

Whoops, I posted in the wrong thread. Hey, I look good, but I’m not that bright. Well, actually, I don’t look that good either. :smack:

A question for those of you who’ve more experience watching operas.
Subtitles – Do they do them/how do they do them at live performances. The two I’ve seen on TV have had what appears to be the gist of what the singer is “saying” superimposed.
If I was to go to a live performance, I feel I would be hopefully lost. Lost enough to be turned off the whole genre.

Most places will have titles for live performances. Usually they are projected on a screen either above or to the side of the stage. At the Met in New York, there’s a digital display on the back of the seats (which allows people who don’t like titles to turn them off).

You are aware, aren’t you, that Phil Lesh is a HUGE opera fan and took the entire band to see the entire Ring Cycle several times. Word is that they all liked it except for Jerry, who kept falling asleep and snoring enough to cause a bit of a scene.

Hel-LO! Spoiler alert!

I Googled and still don’t know WTH Phil Lesh is, although he has excellent taste in opera.

The two places I’ve seen operas had supratitles - a tiny screen above the actors heads, where they projected the words.

You won’t be lost.

Phil was the bassist for the Grateful Dead and was a classically trained muscian before he discovered the Beatles, Bob Dylan, LSD, and Kerouac.

Thanks.

Phil Lesh is not only the bassist for the Grateful Dead, he’s the best bassist that ever trode this Earth.

Not that I’m partial or anything…

(Psst. “Searching for the Sound” details that anecdote (as well as hundreds more), plnnr. And yes, I was aware.)
