My wife ran into someone online she last saw 72 years ago

My wife is from the Sheepshead Bay area of Brooklyn. She reads a web site from the NY Transit Museum (cool place I’ve been to a few times). Some commenter asked about people’s favorite subway stop. She replied giving one near where she grew up. Someone responded asking her where she lived. They exchanged a couple notes and then she asked where he went to school. PS 225, same as her. Then she remarked that her father was a shop teacher there; did he remember him? He sure did. And then he said that her father, on discovering that he was a serious pianist, invited him to their apartment to play some piano and that there was a girl there. Was it her and did she remember? Yes, she was ten years old but she certainly remembered the occasion.

Mundane and pointless, but what a coincidence!

Pretty cool! See, social media isn’t all that bad.

I am facebook friends with a first cousin once removed, whom I was aware of, but have never met.

I found my SO had half-siblings she never knew about on a genealogy site and contacted them on Facebook. Took a full sibling to contact them to hear anything from 'em.

Been there. I agree, cool place.

Hari, I needed a story like this today. Thank you.

I just reconnected on Facebook with someone I haven’t seen or thought about in 50 years. This has happened to me several times. There is an active Facebook page for the neighborhood I lived in as a child.
