I tried to honour this momentous occasion by really getting inside the heads of the characters. And then throwing in zombies, etc.

The slightly inaccurate usage of “Her Royal Highness” and “smarter” make it seem a bit implausible, I’m afraid.
That’ll learn me to not brush up on my honourifics before writing about space zombies.

I suppose if you want to get into the head of a character, zombies are the way to go.
Exactly. The zombies are symbolic of our innate need to truly connect with others–a need that is frustrated at every turn (hence the agony of being undead). We are alone, shuffling through life without any desire other than to understand and be understood.
That’s really the theme of my piece.
