My Willys is gone!

Homeslice: Johnny2A

Jeff Olsen: Willys pickups are the coolest. There’s a '48(?) around my neighbourhood somewhere.

Sexy Writer: It’s a little too slow to drive every day. If I didn’t have to drive 43 miles each way to work, I’d drive it more. Right now I just drive it on the weekends. It has 80,000 miles on the clock.

Here are some images I’ve used or will eventually use on The CJ2A Page. I wanted to see what a blue Jeep would look like, so I re-coloured the green one.

Don’t do that to me! I thought you meant it was stolen!

And you did that on purpose, just to get lots of readers, didn’t you? OK, I’ll contribute…

Despite being here in Michigan, I vote against the pasture green body and michigan yellow wheels scheme. It’s gonna look like a John Deere tractor, and people will forever after point that out to you.

I do like the normandy blue color, if you want it to look nice. If you’re gonna be taking it off pavement much, I’d go with the harvest tan. It won’t show the dirt as much.

And I second the call for pictures when you get it painted. Good luck on the brake job. The guy that that bought my '46 spent $500 on brakes.

Sorry RalfCoder, I didn’t mean to scare you [sub]that bad[/sub]!

I’m leaning toward the Harvest Tan. Good colour, and not common nowadays.

I’ve been thinking about the expense. To take off the sheet metal and re-finish the frame, paint the body parts seperately and reassemble, will cost about $5,000. The 11" brakes will cost $1,000 installed, and the new top will cost $1,000. And here I am, trying to move out of state! Might take a while before I get it painted. Hey, at least it isn’t pink like some of the DJ-3 “Surreys”!

I gotta tell you, I was looking for my nitro pills, and yelling, “It’s the big one, Lis’beth! I’m comin’ to ya!”

I have a couple of friends who were in the Marines. I’ll dig out the story from them when one was stationed at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba, when the base commander’s jeep got painted pink. It was a great prank, and only the colonel and the sentries on duty that night were not amused…

Update: Midas called and said they couldn’t handle the job, so they’re taking it to a different shop. Something about not having the proper tool to pull the hubs…

I’ve been on JU for about 2 years under the screenname justin.

Geez, too bad you’re not in the Yukon. I know a few with a full selection of the tools and a random selection of parts left over from when the Alaska Highway went through.

Urban Legend of the Yukon

This came to me in the time-honored way of all UL’s, a friend told me about his friend, who actually found them…

According to this legend, somewhere along the Yukon portion of the highway (or perhaps the Mayo road - Klondike Highway #somethingorother), there is an old abandoned community dump. Landfill, if you will.

Behind said dump, off in the trees, are a number of large, old crates. Somewhere between six and twenty of them. In each crate, is one factory-new WWII vintage Army Willys, still in the packing grease.

I give it the same credence I give any other UL ('specially since nobody’s driving any), but given the history of the US Army here, it isn’t COMPLETELY outside the realms of possibility…I mean, when the US pulled out of the Yukon, a bunch of equipment got driven out onto the ice at Watson Lake and left there to sink when the ice went out…

Anybody up for looking? It’s a good excuse to go bushwhacking, should you need one.

Actually, I’m planning on a short trip to Alaska in August…

But to the “Jeep in a Crate”. Once upon a time, magazine ads promised “Jeeps! Still in the crate! $500!” But people who have studied/searched for/wished for the “Jeep in a Crate” say that the only jeeps (lowercase, since Jeep wasn’t trademarked until 1950) still crated up are in the holds of cargo ships that didn’t make it to England and are rusting on the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. :frowning:

I really have no preference about what color you paint, it, Johnny.

What I want to know is, when are you going to pack all your stuff in it and MOVE UP HERE???

Scotti: Well, my sis and I signed escrow papers on the house we inherited. Once I have my half, I’ll be trying to figure out the best way of moving up and not spending it! They gave me a promotion at work and now I’m too busy to search the Seattle Times employment ads! I did update the résumé though. A few people went to a big meeting/convention in Seattle (of course they didn’t le me go! And they came back telling me how beautiful it was up there!) and they brought back an application from Seattle’s Best Coffee (the kind of ap they put out on the counter for barista positions). Ha! They think I’m not going to fill it out! I’ll check out the website.

I don’t think anyone wants to move up north more than I do!

I’ll be in B’ham from the 29th - 3rd to see the premiere of the movie I worked on. From the few edited bits I’ve seen, it’s going to be totally absurd and wacky! I can’t wait!

YeeHah!

Let me know when you want to get together while you are here…I’ll clear my calendar!
