myDoom And The Idiots Who Spread It

This weekend so far I have had 52 copies of this virus emailed to me.

Just what will it take before idiots stop clicking on any old email attachment that complete strangers have apparently emailed them?

52, eh?

On the day it came out, I was getting one every 15 to 20 minutes for a while. I must’ve gotten about 25 that night.

Heh I just helped three people clean up myDoom and I’m not even all that computer savy. It’s shocking the level of basic computer knowlege most people have. Hell if they knew so little about their dog it would die.

Every morning I wake up with about 50-60 mydoom emails, and during the day, I get about 10-20 every hour.

sigh

Not like I don’t have anything better to do than constantly empty my inbox.

Well I feel like I missed the parade… I haven’t had one yet.

That’s a scary thought. Almost impossible compared to what everyone else is reporting.

Oddly enough, I just intercepted an e-mail that carried the virus. My ISP has been blocking them pretty well so far, but this one slipped past them. I disposed of the e-mail immediately. I don’t click on any e-mail attachments unless they’re from someone I know and I’m expecting it. It stuns me speechless that anyone would click on an attachment from a stranger nowadays. People like that should not be allowed to operate such a complicated piece of machinery. They should be limited to more simple appliances, like say, a manual egg beater.

I couldn’t resist dredging up a thread I started in September, now that the subject of viruses has popped up again.

Enjoy!

Hey virus-sender, if you’re reading this…

Hey, if you’re the bastard who’s been sending out buttloads of virus-laden emails tonight, that claim to be “security updates from Microsoft”…GO SCREW YOURSELF! GO INFECT YOURSELF WITH SOME NASTY VIRUS THAT CAUSES YOUR NEEDLE-SIZED WIENER TO SHRIVEL UP AND FALL OFF! NOT THAT YOU EVER WILL USE IT ANYWAY, BECAUSE YOU’RE PROBABLY SOME BUTT-UGLY SON OF A BITCH WHO SITS IN HIS ROACH-INFESTED BASEMENT APARTMENT ALL DAY AND SENDS OUT THIS SHIT TO RUIN OTHER PEOPLE’S LIVES! YOU’RE A PATHETIC EXCUSE FOR A HUMAN BEING AND A ROACH IS A PRINCE COMPARED TO YOU, YOU SHIT!

Heh, Virginia Tech’s email system was shut down for almost a full week because of the virus. As it happened, the email server admins were out on vacation at the time. But, on the bright side, it delayed the CS project that was due for me that week.

Oh really? Don’t you find that a bit…convenient?

Well there are quite a few still out there and those folks dont seem to be on their own.

And arent those graphs fun to play with ?

I’ve had two but the weird thing is that the emails were in some other language (German, IIRC). Normally I just encounter them in newsgroups.

Thank god it seems to be dying down here. As the default webmaster for a small organization, I get all emails that come to our domain with invalid addresses. The virus seems to generate a lot of random addresses (dave@domain.org, mary@domain.org, ray@domain.org, etc.), and I was getting literally one virus every five minutes for about a week. That’s a lot of damn viruses!

But I just checked, and I haven’t received any for at least half an hour. Please let the flood be over!
