Mysterious computer part! Oooooh!

So, due to my recent flooding, I’ve been going through damaged and destroyed bits of my posessions. Mostly it’s annoying me, but every once in a while I’ll run across something I didn’t even know I had. Like…

“Ir Receiver Paintbrush”

The only reason I even know what it is is because I googled the serial number on it. It has a USB port, but my computer doesn’t seem to know what the heck it’s there for when I plug it in. I’ll admit I’m stymied, too. What the heck -is- this thing? And can I use it for anything fun?

You mean this?

It is for use with a Picasso remote control, what you have is the receiver end, you need a remote (the sender) like this to use it:

Oh I’m pretty sure I have one of those somewhere around here… But what IS it, man? What the heck do I do with it?

Obviously, you use it to operate Picasso from a distance.

Like Terrifel mentions, it is a little like your TV remote, only that instead of changing channels and increasing volume you control the computer’s cursor and clicks from a distance, the remote should have also keys that allow you to go back and forth on a presentation (the computer is usually connected then to a projector for a group to see)

And presentations are usually the reason why doohickeys like this one are made.

Well, whatever it was you did with it, I’d estimate that it was at least $300 worth of it. Maybe $500.

Heh. Actually, it came with my computer, along with a bunch of other stuff I never used. shrug. The remote just doesn’t sound that fun, but I’ll be sure to use the receiver as a ‘stump the geek’ prop at my next shindig!

I bet his wives would have liked that.
