NAACP makes "more money off of race than any slave trader ever" comment

If only we lived in a post-corporatist society. Le sigh.

You don’t know who the abolitionists were, do you?

What do you mean?

Do you? Seriously, I’ve seen your posts in maybe a half-dozen threads in my entire time here, and yet I had a hunch you’d be dropping by. You’re just as novel as the two of them.

Re the OP, I don’t consider myself an offenderati by any stretch, but saying the NAACP makes more money off of race than any slave trader ever is fucking vile.

Or that it belongs on a trash heap. He seems to have no clue about the historical time frame in which it started or its contributions and those of its members to the Civil Rights movement and honestly seems to think that now Jim Crow is over and Obama’s president that everything’s fine and they should disband. Since guns are legal I wonder if he thinks the same of the NRA.

Tea partiers as abolitionists? I had them pegged as Know-Nothings (some of whom were abolitionist), myself.

Is that a “no?”

No, I just think you’re an asshole. But you’re kind of amusing.

Because I dislike rephrasing what someone else has already said perfectly, I will quote an unlikely source for perfect agreement with me: Washington Post columnist E.J. Dionne, in yesterday’s column:

I concur completely.

“We don’t cotton”? “We don’t cotton”? You bet we don’t cotton, YOU MUTHA-FUCKIN’ RACIST!

“The law, in its majestic equality, forbids rich and poor alike to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal their bread.”
-Anatole France

Dude that said that was black, right?

I agree completely with the article Bricker posted. Leaders of the Tea Party should openly declare that there’s no room in their party for racists and homophobes.

They won’t though, because it obviously will thin their ranks too much.

God, what has the Republican Party become? I simply cannot believe the transformation.

I’m utterly astonished that, in 2010, people can still be so incredibly tone deaf.

Unless, of course, we posit that Williams is actually spot-on, tone-wise, for his party.

Well, he meant “not adjusted for inflation,” obviously.

Looking around at America, Hell, yeah, they do!

When the race you’re born into is no longer in any way statistically predictive of your social status, income, life expectancy, incarceration possibilities, circumstances-of-life in general, then maybe, just maybe, it will be time for them to shut up. But I fear neither they nor you will live to see that day.

“Yesterday our general manager came on the air to give an editorial condemning drunken driving. Today, Mr. Rand Rover is here to give an opposing opinion.”*

*apologies to the late great Johnny Carson

The worst part is you just know he thinks that was so clever and that his buds are nudging him at whatever the cyber version of the water cooler is for it.

White people to NAACP: Time to disband!

And I disagree. Vehemently.

The Tea Party is working to get a ballot line in NY for, among others, their gubernatorial candidate: Carl Paladino.

For anyone who may have forgotten who he is, he’s the NY real estate mogul turned Tea Party leader who got into a bit of trouble this year when emails being forwarded to people on Tea Party mailing lists included racist screeds and imagery, as well as bestiality porn.

His apologia when this all came out was less than satisfactory:

This is, IMNSHO, a man who sees nothing wrong in the images and text he forwarded. For that matter, this is a man revealed to be a sexist pig. As well as a racist one. And he’s being lauded as a leader for the Tea Partiers.
Bugger all the racist, sexist bastards. Bugger all the idiots buying into the idea that racism isn’t a key part of recruiting for the Tea Party. And bugger anyone who doesn’t try to hold the Tea Party accountable for what their own goddamned leadership is saying. It’s not simply a lunatic fringe of the Tea Party. It’s a lot more central than that.

I am willing to believe there are plenty of decent people involved in the Tea Party movement. That doesn’t excuse their willingness to turn a blind eye to the filth that IMNSHO pervades every level of the Tea Party.

Once again, Bricker and Rand Rover are the lone voices of reason in an otherwise useless thread. Williams is correct. The NAACP belongs on the scrap heap of history. They benefit no one. They’re professional offenderati and nothing more. Now how many times do the TP leaders have to deny that they’re about racism, how many times do they have to denounce racist actions, for you to admit that they’re trying to “expel the bigots and racists from [their] ranks”?
