I’ve a technical interview coming up next week. The job I’m applying for is related to troubleshooting J2EE project related application (mostly on weblogic) and interacting with technical folks and business folks as a middle person to communicate issues/resolvation back and forth.
I feel more comfortable with the business aspect of the job. However, I’m always a little nervous about the technical interviews. I am confident about my technical skills related to the technology but I’ve had instances where people have even asked my syntax level questions which can throw you off if you’re talking to two three people who are interviewing you.
Any suggestions/resources/reading/personal tips related to technical related interviews?
Be honest. Be willing to work things through in front of the guy if you need to. Admit when the question is out of your expertise completely. I got hired.
I had an interview last Wednesday, and was told today that they’d be sending me an offer. One thing that I did that I would recommend–if you’re asked a question that either you don’t know the answer to or blank out on, admit it. Honesty is the best policy. Then, when you write your thank-you’s, address the issue in them. Whether you never knew the material or had to review it, it’s impressive. In the first case, it shows initiative that you went out and found the answer. In the second case, it shows that you can quickly come up-to-speed on material that has gotten a bit rusty. Plus, including that in your thank-you notes helps remind the interviewer of your specific interview (as opposed to the people before or after you) and makes it seem less like a from-a-job-search-book thank you note.
