The other day I got into a discussion about songs that are about streets, roads, avenues, or other paved (or unpaved) places where cars go. I thought I’d ask here and see what others come up with.
But it might turn into a short thread, so once we’ve exhausted the list, someone should suggest another topic. Food. Dogs. Space travel. Relatives. Whatever you can think of.
But let’s start with roads. All we could come up with was:
On Broadway
Penny Lane
Route 66
Ventura Highway

Do want songs that have the word road/street in the title, or songs about specific roads?
Highway Star vs. Route 66?
Holiday Road – Lindsay Buckingham
I-95 – Fountains of Wayne

Let’s keep it to specific roads, even if they are mythical.
Does “Street Of Dreams” count?
The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway - Genesis
Telegraph Road - Dire Straits
Basin Street Blues (Louis Armstrong?)
Dixie Highway (Journey)
10th Avenue Freezeout (Bruce)
Fascination Street (The Cure)
Pony Street (Elvis Costello)
Respectable Street (XTC)
Mercy Street (Peter Gabriel)
Lake Shore Drive (Aliotta Haynes & Jeremiah)
Ventura Highway (America)
although these are not specific streets:
Boulevard (Jackson Browne)
The Old Man Down the Road (John Fogerty)
King’s Highway (Tom Petty)
King’s Road (Tom Petty)
apparently these are different songs, altho I was unfamiliar with the latter until I looked up the former.
I suspect the mods will steer this thread off Game Room Way and onto Cafe Society Terrace.
Green Day has a couple: Christie Road and Stuart and the Ave. (The Ave. being Telegraph Ave. in Berkeley)
Flogging Molly have a song called The Kilburn High Road but it’s not exactly about the road so I’m not sure it counts.
Seven Bridges Road - Eagles
On further review…from listology.
Carefree Highway – Gordon Lightfoot
Church on Cumberland Road – Shenandoah
Gilbert Street by Sweet Thursday
Lullaby of Broadway (from Golddigers of 1935 )
