I am generally able to draw a fairly accurate overhead map/diagram of a place or a building/house by retaining a good idea of what the layout of a place would look like if viewed from above. I wonder if there is a name for this?

A century ago, architects with a particular talent for room layout were called “planners,” before that came to be short for “city planners.”
I believe the phrase you’re looking for is “mental rotation.”
Reminds me of an employment test I once took. You had to pick the shape a flat pattern would make when folded together. Is that the same cognitive ability?
