Name for the Funny Room...?

a) What’s the name for that room where the walls and floor are not plumb such that a 10 year od kid can look like a giant, and a full grown person looks tiny?
b) Bonus Round: Is there a name for the branch of psychology that studies these tricks on the brain?

Thanks,

The technique is called Forced Perspective - I’m not sure if the popular implementation in funny rooms (there’s a good one in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory) has a name.

Thanks for the tip! Yes, the room is named for a doctor who (I assume) invented the room. It’s a short, common name, IIRC, like Miller or Smith…so simple you can’t forget it! But, I did. Maybe it was a Dr. Brown? Meanwhile…I’ll go google now that I have a starting point.

Thanks again,

It’s called an Ames Room.

I’ve seen the one at Puzzling World in Wanaka, New Zealand. Very neat.

Named after Adelbert Ames, Jr., no less.

Who attended Dartmouth College. ::Total Hijack::, How does one pronounce “Dartmouth”?

I’ve always said “Dart-Mith”

Cool! I wanna go there!

“dartmuth”.

Is the OP asking about a Hall of Mirrors?

No. Ames Room.

This is the sort of effect you get. It only works for an observer in one particular point on the front wall. The rooms are built with a peephole, or video camera, located at that point.

Actually, a video shows it better.

I can’t, I’m… too drunk.

Thanks, Really.

DartMOOTH with an OO like book.

:smack: not really an emphasis on the second syllable.
Dartmooth with oo like book.

Most would disagree and pronounce it like /Dart-myth/, not /Dart-muth/…a subtle difference. (Now, how about Gloucester? )

Thanks all for participating…Ames Room is what I was seeking!
