Name my new daughter

Background: we have 7 kids. The 3 youngest are adopted from China. They are named Scout (7), Scarlett (5), and Jett (4). We’re thinking about one more. We’re not sure yet, just thinking about it. In the past, choosing a name has been a major difficulty of the adoption process.

Obviously we need a name that is very cool, and quite possibly literary, to keep up with the others. VeryCoolSpouse insists that our new daughter will be named Ringo. I’m am less convinced, and several friends have suggested that they will not speak with us ever again should we inflict such a name on a daughter.

Make your suggestions here!

In a related thread, over here we talked about who dopers are named for. Some interesting stories there, should you be looking for inspiration.

This belongs in IMHO; I’ll move it there for you.

You could be subtle and name her Starr.

Boo.

Here’s some help:

I’m kinda partial to Clara and Sally at the moment.

Huit

Meg, Jo, Amy or Beth

Kaylee

Leia

Sera.

You need a hard consonant name for the next one, IMHO. Scout and Scarlett (very cool) have the Ska going for it. Jett is soft. You need something concrete to offset it all.

Kiana
Keely
Kiah/ kyah
Kayla

Tamsin
Tallulah ( though if paired with Scout, you will be accused of following Demi & Bruce)
Garnet
Poppy
Ruby

From The Scarlet Letter, Pearl.

From Tess of the D’Urbervilles, Tess.

I’m sure I’ll think of some later, but that’s all my tired brain can conjure right now.

My wife and I are expecting our first child and we are faced with the same issue.

We have a boy’s name chosen and we were both surprised that we were able to agree on one so quickly.

As for a girl’s name, that’s another story.

We printed out a list of the top 1,000 most popular girl’s names and have yet to find one we both agree on. We also got one of those little baby name books with the idea that we would whittle a list by crossing out all of the “definitely-not-that-one’s”. We wound crossing out just about every name.

As for the maybe’s, I like the name Savannah as well as the name Aubrey. My wife isn’t too keen on either. She’s leaning toward Alexis which I think is just too common nowadays.

I know this wasn’t much help but just thought I’d share.

While we’re here talking about baby names, might as well link to the NameVoyager.

Serena is my daughter’s name and my all time favorite girl’s name. I also like Charlotte and Louisa. Uncommon yet pretty with historical roots.

ELEANOR

Ok, so I’m partial.

Arwen? (LOTR) Hermione? (HP) Elphaba? (Wicked) Kairi? (Kingdom Hearts)

Im sure I can think of a few better names, but these are the ones that immediately come to mind for being a little bit different.

Something that sounds more like a word than a name, with one or two syllables, ending in t.

What about Gatsby? It’s literary and it’d make a really cute name for a little girl.

Desireé. If my son Robert had been a girl, that would have been her name.
