Thanks for noticing. VeryCoolSpouse is an artist and color is very important around our house. Some nice creativity, along with some rather funny bits, there. Thanks!
Oh, then how about (Burnt) Sienna ?
You want literary? Here’s some female names from the finest of literature:
Imra
Luornu
Tinya
Salu
Ayla
Nura
Tasmia
Mysa
I like “Veronica”.
I thought of naming my daughter that, but a co worker was named Veronica, and I didn’t want people to talk.
Shamrock and Toadstool aren’t used often enough as names.
Thank you! I was trying for a mix of unusual-but-acceptable and outright crazy names, and I’m glad you saw the humour in the silly ones. I was a little worried after I’d hit ‘submit’ that I might offend you by not taking it seriously enough.
I think the suggestion by **gigi ** a little further down of ‘Sienna’ might genuinely be a good one. It’s girly, colourful, and uncommon but not ‘way out of left field’ - so it suits the kind of names you’ve chosen so far.
(Oddly, I find ‘Scythe’ quite appealing… I must be channeling my inner Goth. How very disturbing! )
But they’re boy’s names!
True story: when my best friend and I were about 14 and doing the ‘naming of the future kids’ thing that all 14 year old girls do, she said - in absolute seriousness -
"I think ‘Ogre’ is a good name for a boy."
I really think that’s all the reasons you’ll ever need, right there, for why we need to stop 14-year-old girls from getting pregnant.
You could name her after our bowling team, which is a chinese name:
Yu Fuk Dup
Or, a name I thought of yesterday as I was driving hither and yon, Piper
This is, after all, IMHO. I don’t usually hang out here. Over in Cafe, I’m usually the one getting flamed for not being serious enough.
Are you concerned that you HAVE an inner Goth?
Maybe we could name her InnerGoth? Hmmm…
Are you referring, perhaps, to the Ardennes Forest?
Oh your girls are adorable! So cute in the matching Pjs!
Willa or Antonia (why, yes, I have been reading Ms Cather’s most famous work).
Colours (I’ve bolded the ones I’m seriously suggesting, the rest are just fun).
Amber
Amethyst
Argent
Aqua
Apple
Blaize (or Blaze, or Blaise)
Carmina
Cherry
Cyan
Cobalt (I know someone who called their son Cobalt, Coby for short)
Coral
Ebony
Flame
Fuschia
Ginger
Hazel
Heather
Honey
Indigo
Ivory
Jade
Lavender
Lilah (well, calling a child Lilac would be cruel)
Magenta
Ochre
Olive
Peach
Petunia (I’m a Lonely Little Petunia in the Onion Patch…)
Pearl (she’s a singer)
Poppy
Plum
Red
Rose
Ruby
Russet
Saffron
Sienna
Sandy
Skye
Topaz
Violet
I know it’s probably not to your taste, but may I suggest Jacinta, you can pronounce it as the Spanish original (Ha-seen-tha) or the common English variation (Ja-sin-ta).
It’s from the Spanish for purple (it’s a derivative of hyacinth), it fits your S and J pattern, it’s literary (Fortunata y Jacinta by Benito Pérez Galdós is a classic of Spanish Literature) and Jacinta was also one of the children at Fatima.

If we had another daughter, we were going to name her Cassandra Hope and call her Kiss for short.
We have decided on Django (after Django Reinhardt, of course).
Thank you everyone for your input. (I’m glad Ringo got dropped.)
Can I ask how Scout has worked out? (the name, not the daughter!)
It’s a name we are considering both because we loved To Kill a Mockingbird and because it’s such a cute name. But, the whole attachment to Demi Moore is something of a turnoff. Do you find that everyone brings up Demi Moore when they hear your daughter’s name?
When considering a name, can I sugest you might want to think how it would sound if she were to become POTUS?
Two of my favorite girl names that went unused because none of our daughters looked like the names fit once they were here are Samantha and Adelaide (Addie). You’re welcome to them if you like them.
I almost named my daughter “Hadley.” Ernest Hemingway’s first wife had that name. I named her Olivia, but I still kind of wish I’d chosen Hadley, because I’ve never seen another one.
Why not a Chinese name, if you adopt from China? Our son is adopted from Jamaica and we named him “Nigel,” which is common in Jamaica (they like those British names) but not in the US. I later saw in one name book that “Nigel” means “black prince,” which is kind of cool.
Just saw the pic of Django. Is that your new daughter? what a cutie!
The fact that this thread was started by NoCoolUserName just makes me smile.
At least you know your weakness and know to get help.
