Name not the same on passport OH NO

Yeah, next time we’re in her country we’ll do it. At least we keep saying that. We were just there for a year and a half. :smack:

I’ve had the name of my ticket changed because Japanese travel agents have forgotten to add my middle name or when they misspelled my MIL’s name. The airline should be able to change the name on the ticket.

Mrs. Map had to do exactly this (before she became a US citizen recently.)

Her country refused to issue her passport with her real (new) name outright. Instead, they added an officially-typed “note” on page 3 that said “this person is also known as XXX”.

So, when interacting with any kind of immigration or airline person, she invariably had to help them find page 3 of her passport. Took a few extra seconds, no big deal.

Absolutely. “Changing the ticket” means changing to a different flight or different day; correcting the name on the ticket should be straightforward.

I travelled for a while with my passport listing me as “C K Dexter Haven” and the ticket as “Dexter Haven.” I had to EXPLAIN to the agent that I used my middle name. It was a headache, but not a show-stopper.

I never use my middle name on tickets, and it’s on my passport. Never once had a problem, either domestically or internationally, pre- or post-9/11/01.

I also ran into the same problem booking tickets for my daughter. I made reservations online with Lufthansa for a flight from Copenhagen to Munich. The online system only asked for a “First Name” and a “Last Name” so I entered her info. without her middle name. When the option to fill out her passport info. came up, I then realized that there may be a problem with her boarding pass because her middle name wasn’t listed in her flight reservations. I called Lufthansa’s 24 hr. customer service in Germany and was told that as long as the first and last name is correct, then it will not be a problem for her to board her flight.
Lufthansa here in the USA stated the same thing. They stated that there wasn’t enough space on the boarding pass for a middle name, so they would allow passengers to board even if the passport includes a middle name and the boarding pass doesn’t.
So, from what I have learned, if you are flying in the USA or departing internationally from the USA, as long as the TSA here in the USA has all your info. in the system with your full name and pertinent info., the airlines won’t make a big deal or keep you from boarding your flight because of your middle name. I wish it was that easy in Europe!
Anyway, I am planning on calling Lufthansa customer service in Copenhagen to double check and make sure that will allow her to board her flight to Munich.
