It really is a tradition thing - it’s gets funnier every time you watch, and the company you’re in also adds immensely to the enjoyment. Everyone knows all the lines and you usually laugh even before the butler trips. Every once in a while you will have a virgin at the party who doesn’t seem to get what the fuss is all about - some love it, some are meh.
I genuinely believe it’s funny, but
a) only once a year
b) with the right people and
c) in the mindset that it’s tradition and, dammit, you’re going to enjoy yourself.
You can’t argue with tradition.
