Ooooh. we did this in Girl Scouts, too. Then we cooked atop an empty HI-C can with a door cut in it for the tuna fish sterno can with vents made in the sides of the top by a bottle opener thingie.
**Got a problem with mildew in your bathroom? ** Put baking soda on it and spray a mix of water and vineager on it, watch it bubble and scrub off with toothpaste.
**Tired of a smelly drain in the kitchen or does it run slow and you don’t have any drano? **
Dump a box of baking soda down the drain. Pour in vineager, let sit for a little while or possibly while you are away on vacation. Then to flush out the system, pour down boiling hot water.
It’s cheaper and better for the enviroment.
Clean old soup cans with out sharp edges make excellent pencil and marker holders.
Old Samsonite suitcases (had for rather cheap at garage sales and Salvation Army) make for excellent under the bed storage containers for toys and whatnot.
Got greasy hands and cannot get it off with soap or industrial hand cleaners? Butter will take care of the job.
Miracle Whip makes an excellent exfoliator, cracked foot softener, rough elbows softener. No, really. So you will end up smelling like a ham sandwich, it could be worse.
Get old wax out of candle holders by sticking it in the freezer for a short time. The wax will then chip off.
**Get price stickers off of glass **and whatnot by spraying a little Pam on it and allow to soak thru. It should remove the adhesive and make an easier peeling. It’s faster than soaking in water.
Get stickers off a window ( car or house window) by spraying with pam and using a straight edge razor blade.
Got a stain on the carpet that nothing takes out: next time the kids barf, try a spot of vomit on it. The acid in the stomach isn’t as strong as bleach, but will/may lighten up the offending stain enough so it doesn’t scream out at you . ( May have to be left on overnight with a wet rag atop it.) Sometimes repeat applications are necessary. Trust me on this one, I could sell Gack in a Can™ if I could get my kids to vomit barrel fulls a day to met production. Dog vomit does not have the same effect at all, regretfully. Oh, and nothing gets out Coca Cola. Nothing.
Nipple Sheilds that are given at the hospital for new moms to protect their sensitive nipples can also be used as space man’s crazy eyeball goggles. Loads of fun at parties. Yeah, I said nipple.
**PVC piping **has a myriad of uses around here: It is used in the summer as a oblongish drying rack for my clothes outside. In the winter it is a kids’ fort.
**PVC piping ** is also used to store old movie posters, house plans and other things of that size. Then, to keep them out of your hair, you can hang them from the basement rafters, labeling them on the outside of what is what.
**Old Movie Posters and House Plans and Maps ** are excellent and unique wrapping paper for any occaison. I don’t buy wrapping paper anymore. And movie posters are free from our local video store. Maps are free from AAA.
Plastic Milk Jugs can be cleaned and with an exacto knife, cut a door in the size of one, put sand in for ballast and a candle and you have a really nice, cheap outdoor illumination for a party. Best of all, you can save up these easily and your neighbors can too, and with a pack of 100 for like $10 and a bag of sand for $5, you have cool statement at your next clambake.
Yogurt Cups can be used for paint holders , plant starter kits and making a telephone with the kids ( tin can & string modified.)
Three Ring Binders are not for the office anymore. Use it to organize your warrenties for the things you have in your house.
2. They are awesome for a **centralized filing system ** for those recipe’s you’ve stolen out of a magazine and newspaper. Using the plastic sheet covers make it perfect for quick clean up.
**3.**Also great to organize medical info in a transportable manner for kids for those fun trips to the doctor’s office.
4 Perfect for your kids own personal scrapbook. Mucho More affordable than any Scrapbook Supply Company, and you won’t faint after your pwecious child sneezes grape juice all over the plastic sheet protector. Best of all, when you have 5 on a shelf ( say, grades 1-5) not only does it look orderly, but take great comfort int he fact that you have spent on 5 three ring binders what one woman has spent on one Memory Book from one of those Guilt Based Home Businesses.
5 I love 3 ring binders.
We are in pre-production of taking an old leather office chair ( the base broke and is not repairable and too expensive to replace.) and putting a base on the bottom, attaching wheels and putting PVC piping along the arms to make a rickshaw for the kids. Pre-production means its sitting in the garage waiting for Me to find some wheels that won’t make the kids rip fingers off.

Plastic shower caps are good for food coverin’.
Shavin’ cream is good for spot liftin’

Clean windows, mirrors, and other glass surfaces with newspaper instead of paper towels. Trust me, you’ll be amazed.
Coca Cola is good for cleaning toilets and getting the grease off your driveway. And we DRINK this stuff?!
I also use baking soda for getting stains out of the sinks and bathtubs. And whipped cream…well that goes without saying!
if you mix water & vinegar together in a spray bottle, you can use it as an after shower spray (for the shower, not you) as a cheap alternative to the expensive “clean shower” products that help prevent soap scum buildup.
Soda is also spiffy for cleaning chrome. I saw that on some tv show a couple of nights ago.
Old panty hose are good for scrubbing semi-delicate surfaces.
my friend (seriously it was my friend) used to use a baby bottle washer to clean her bong, worked quite well.
When I used to use powdered Tide to for laundry, I used to sprinkle it on my carpets, wait a few minutes then vacuum. It made the floos smell fresh.
Also, we used to use Tide liquid in the garage to clean the floors. Dump some on the floor, use a deck brush to scrub, then pressure wash the cement floors. Keeps the floor looking clean.
Since our local paper switched to soy-based inks, I am not nearly as pleased with the cleaning properties of old newspapers. YMMV.
And the floors smelled fresh, too.
I like the loo of woo floos, myself
An egg carton full of dryer lint is great kindling in the wood stove.
