Name that team!

Jack Batty

*Harchester Rovers * was name of the team in “Dream Team”

Monstars: Space Jam, basketball

Ridgemont Wolves–Fast Times at Ridgemont High–basketball?

Polk High School Panthers

Football - Married with Children

Los Angeles Diablos

Gonna guess Basketball - Bedazzled

Okay, because Basin City is the fictional city from Frank Miller’s “Sin City”, I’ll venture that there’s where the Basin City Blues hail from. And I’ll say it’s… football?

chowder, if you mean this Dream Team I think you mean Harchester United, not Harchester Rovers.
Munch picks up another point for Monstars.
want2know, the Ridgemont Wolves were indeed from Fast Times at Ridgemont High. They were football, not basketball — but I suspect that like most schools, all the teams would have the same mascot. You should probably get the point.
spooje gets 2 points. Good call on the Diablos.
Sr Siete, right city. Wrong sport.

What remains:

Basin City Blues
Brentwich United
Brooklyn Bimbos
Charlotte Banshees
Gotham Goliaths (not football)
London Kings
London Silly Nannies
Moose Knucklers
Pittsburgh Ironmen
Renford Rejects
San Francisco Saints
Swindon Mallets

Damn, I wanted to get Tank McNamara for ESU

Family Guy, (American) football

Peter Griffin was traded from the New England Patriots to an NFL EUrope football team called the London Silly Nannies in an episode of “Family Guy”

Yay, me! I got it! Now, how should I celebrate? I know!
“Shipoopi! Shipoopi! Shipoopi!
(Do re me fa sol la ti do…)”

Personally, I’m disappointed that the Gashouse Gorillas and the Hoboken Zephyrs weren’t on the oriignal list.

Missed this one on the first read-through. The Renford Rejects are a soccer team from the TV Show, Renford Rejects.

I just want to say that these two threads have been a blast - thanks Fish!

What? Did I say football? I actually meant… um… basketball. Yeah. That’s it.

No problem, Munch. I wish I could say it was brilliance on my part, but Wikipedia has great resources for this: just look up List of Fictional (noun).

Cheating with wikipedia, it appears that the Pittsburgh Ironmen were a real professional basketball team in the BAA, the forerunner of the NBA.

Not what the OP was referring to certainly, but kind of interesting.

The London Kings was a baseball team that once included the legendary Harmon “Buck” Bokai of Star Trek: TNG and Deep Space 9.

It was from an episode late in the show’s run, a flashback thing. But the team was actually called the Roswell Grays, now that I think about it.

It was Bay City Blues. The team name was actually the Bluebirds. Considering the show ran for only eight weeks back in 1983, I’m amazed I came that close.

Nor the Pittsburgh Pythons, nor (my favorite) the Ruppert Mundys and the rest of the Patriot League.

(Hoboken Zephyrs: Twilight Zone episode where players are replaced by robots)

Ah well … shots in the dark. It is pretty easy to peg the soccer team names. And truth be told, *Dream Team *was the only footie show I could think of.

By the way, I hereby bequeath a full 50% of my points to Munch, provided we can work out agreeable visitation rights.

Who, if it helps were (from memory):
Tri-City Tycoons
Tri-City Greenbacks
Independence Blues
Kakoola Reapers
Aceldama Butchers
Asylum Keepers
Terra Incognita Rustlers

Gil Gamesh and Big John Baal belong in the Hall of Fame, dammit!
