Yes I did peruse TV Tropes for the answer before posting here (about two weeks later). But not finding the answer I wanted, here’s the trope I am seeking a name for: it seems like a very 70s-era type, post-flower power and post-“Love Story” romantic cliché. Two young lovers, let’s call them “John” and “Marsha”, are running (slo-mo) through fields of flowers, just bursting with unabashed happy glee at being in love with each other.
The couple grab hold of each others’ arms and spin around in circles. We get a close-up of John’s happy, beaming face staring directly into the camera (Marsha’s POV) as they spin around and around, laughing and laughing.
Cut to a close-up shot of Marsha’s face staring out at the camera (John’s POV) as they spin and gush merrily …
Cut to John’s face (Marsha’s POV) as they spin and giggle happily…
Cut to Marsha’s face (John’s POV) as they spin and laugh gaily…
And on and on. This trope is common enough that it gets lampooned quite a bit on shows like ‘South Park’. Is there an actual name for it though?
