A friend worked at a college radio station in Washington in the early to mid 90s and made me a mix tape. It had a song that I loved and cannot find a reference to online. Maybe you all can help? I only remember bits and pieces.
First line “Flying through the sky in the blink of an eye, we’re giant robots. ah-ah-ah-ah.”
The chorus was “Got to save the world from danger, we’re giant robots, ah-ah-ah-ah. Got to save the world from all the monsters, we’re giant robots, ah-ah-ah-ah”
I do not know if this was the theme song to anything, but as far as I recall, it did not mention any names.
I googled two lines that you posted and both wound up giving me references to this song. It doesn’t seem like the right song, but I’m posting it because the search strings I used didn’t include the "giant robots’ part, just other parts so I thought I’d put it out there and see if it rang a bell. I’m thinking that there might be a full/different version with more/other verses that include that part you posted.
It was neither of these two. It was about the tempo of the Peter Gunn theme, so sorta middle tempo basic rock song. Male singer.
I know exactly the song you’re talking about, but I have no clue who did it. Used to quite popular on KTRU 15-20 years ago.
My Google -fu has prevailed. The song is Giant Robots by Berserk.
I hope this is the right one.
YES that’s it!!! THANK YOU! This has been a repeat earworm for years. Now I’m curious, as my Google-fu came up blank. How did you find it?
Okay so now this leads me to ask can anyone ID the live action movie in that video (the one with the Robot with the kind of Egyptian looking head)? I know I have seen that movie when I was a kid. The scene of it it reaching down towards you and the rockets coming from the fingers were especially familiar. Anyone?
Voyage Into Space, which was edited from Giant Robo, AKA Johnny Sokko and His Flying Robot.
Thanks, I must have seen it as part of ABC’s 4:30 Movie or maybe one of those Saturday afternoon monster movie shows networks used to have.
