Name this TV show/movie from this incredibly vague description.

This was a horror movie/ TV show/ TV series episode involving mirrors. It was real spooky, I couldn’t look at a mirror for weeks. If I could be more specific, I would.

Was it a fairly recent (i.e., early 1990’s) TV show?

Your description sounds like American Gothic. I don’t remember what the show was actually about, but I do remember a particularly nasty episode involving mirrors. Something about people’s faces becoming disfigured after looking into a broken mirror.

Possibly Candyman (with two sequels)? The premise is that if you say “Candyman” five times while looking in the mirror, he will appear (and proceed to gut you).

I vaguely remember that. American Gothic was a good show.

The SciFi channel picked up American Gothic awhile after it was dropped from one of the major networks (NBC?). By the time I was completely hooked on it, the SciFi channel changed their programming schedules and eliminated the show.

I think there was a Tales from the Darkside episode about a horror writer who boasted about not fearing anything suddenly starting to see a muffled, veiled figure approaching him from behind in every reflective surface. Every time he’d see it, the figure got closer. At first, he saw the figure at his bathroom window through the mirror, then it was in the room when he looked in his bedroom mirror, etc.

Eventually, he had a breakdown and had all the mirrors in his house draped over so he couldn’t see anything in them. His girlfriend comes over because he hasn’t called in days and finds him huddled on the bed in a darkened room with all the mirrors covered. She turns on the lights and starts to clean up and uncovers the mirror, and at that point the figure is close enough to loop a garotte around the writer’s neck and strangle. Somehow he becomes the figure, and rips the scarf and hat off to show a kind of zombie-like face, then jumps out the bedroom window to his death.

Scared the hell out of me as a kid. Still spooks me…I probably won’t look at a mirror after dark for days now…

American Gothic… Now there’s a blast from the past. Sheriff Buck was just the coolest ever! But the show itself got a bit samey each week…

Some new (unimportant) character came to Trinity,

(some sub-plot involving Caleb/Buck/Primary school teacher/Deputy develops)

Unimportant character makes an unwitting deal with Buck,

Unimportant character tries to get out of deal,

Buck screws them (and I suppose gets their soul), which explains why they never come back into the show again.

(Sub-plot ends with Caleb, etc. also getting screwed by Buck. In the case of the school teacher, usually literally!)

Good show all the same.

I have no idea if that was really what you meant to say, Neiller, but if it was, congrats on such a perfect description. “Getting samey” is the death of most good shows.
