Dave Volz was an American pole vaulter who was very adept at steadying the bar at the top of his jump to prevent the bar from falling off. Occasionally he could even take a bar that had started to fall and place it back on the pegs for a successful jump. The technique is referred to as Volzing, but it became illegal shortly after he and others became quite adept at it. Can’t seem to find any videos of him doing it though.
